Last post I wrote involved me not feeling great and it went downhill afterwards. Lost over a stone in 4 days spent 4 days in bed could only manage to get to the loo. In the end was rough for 7 days & didnโt run for 4 weeks. No energy & no enthusiasm but back now. Times are improving getting nearer to under the 30 mins again. Struck lucky with A brand new Parkrun in the park behind me. Can now walk to it have done it once, volunteered once and used a freedom Parkrun. Marshalling again this week. Waited two years for this to be sorted, held up by covid but up and running now.
Pap has been back: Last post I wrote involved me... - Couch to 5K
Pap has been back
Glad to hear you're feeling better and running again.
Not heard from you for a while Papillon17, I am glad that you are much better and hopefully fully recovered from your recent illness, that was a very good run for you, just over 30 minutes, well done, that is great that you now have a parkrun very near to where you live,
Welcome back Pap! Iโm so glad youโre feeling better and running again - onwards and onwards!
It's great to be reading your post. I'm delighted to know you are back and fighting fit ๐๐๐ช
I too have been knocked on my backside - firstly by Covid, then closely followed by a "super cold" ๐ I'm now in my fourth week off sick and have been signed off work until at least the 19th. I'm so pleased to see that you are making such positive progress - it's definitely given me a much-needed boost of confidence to firm up my own return plans.
At 62 years old, and with several medical co-morbidities, it's going to be a slog, but I'm keen to get back to where I was in mid-October when I was pottering along doing around 4k in 40 minutes, which I was very content with when you consider I had been very firmly ensconced on the couch for many, many years prior to mid-June 2021!
My plan is to continue walking, which I've been back doing with the dogs over the past couple of weeks, increasing distance and speed as I can manage. I'm hoping to be able to go back to the gym towards the end of this week and just hop on the treadmill to see what I can comfortably manage, as suggested here on the forum. I'm praying I haven't lost too much condition ๐
I will follow you to keep a handle on your progress - hopefully it will help and inspire me on mine too. Good luck to us both as we recover from these ghastly viruses ๐๐๐
Thanks Over60sRunner being 60 my self it came as a shock total enthusiasm went but having now got a brand new Parkrun at the back of me even if only one run a week itโs beneficial. Try a Parkrun you can run, jog or walk it all counts and no one comes last as they have a specific volunteer for that. Itโs worth doing believe me.
Thanks ๐
Parkrun will be a no-no for me unless I can find one where I can run on soft grass the whole way as I was badly injured after trying to run outside on hard surfaces recently (just before being struck down with the double lurgy actually!) I have had several major spinal surgeries over the years and after just one run on a road my back and hips went into agonising spasm and it took a month for my physio to sort it out. I was walking with a stick for the first two weeks as I lost the feeling in my feet which was very worrying ๐ฎ and my lovely physiotherapist told me in no uncertain terms to stick to the treadmill or very soft surfaces in future and, to be honest, I'm fine with that......have playlist, will jog in the gym ๐
Watch this space - I hope to be ok for a trial in the gym towards the end of this week, fingers crossed!
Parkruns you donโt have to run you can walk.
Yes, I know. I have a friend who walks them regularly as part of her recovery from ovarian cancer.
However, my nearest Parkrun is 22 miles away and a 44 mile round trip is a long way for a walk - or, indeed, a run ๐ฒ
