Any tips for trying this on a treadmill?

I completed C25k before outside but trn had my second baby, now its impossible to actually leave the house so I bought a treadmill with the hope if doing it again with my Mum watching the baby in the other room.

I really enjoyed it last time as I could measure my pace etc and wondered if anyone had any tips for doing it it on a treadmill and making it enjoyable? x

Well you know what to expect this time! 👍🏻😁 Treadmills have their own challenges, mainly the boredom factor so you need good music or even a TV or tablet in your viewing range. If you can use something you can get access to you tube on you can use virtual run videos and imagine you're running mountain passes, trails etc which can be nice.

Try not to fixate on the treadmill stats, they make a minute feel like an hour! Get your brain elsewhere!

Good luck!

Welcome to the forum and well done on your decision.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

Enjoy your journey.

My tip is podcasts. Its like running with friends who are having a chat.

Yep, get something to entertain you and a BIG fan as it gets hot 🥵. I did part of the program on the treadmill and it wasn’t too bad boredom wise with the running and walking intervals, it’s when you get to the longer runs later on. Good luck!

I did the whole of the program on a treadmill in our works gym. Since then and 7000 km later, I still do 30% of my runs on one.

The key is to distract your mind - either visually (TV, film, etc) or with audio - music, podcasts, audiobook.

I agree with everyone here -tune into some great music/podcasts, windows open/fan and I would add try to run on a 1% incline to simulate running outside. Still stick to good running shoes for support even though on treadmill, for support. I usually use mantras and affirmations and say these out loud- helps with both motivation and boredom 🤣Im loving the idea of virtual run videos! May try this myself!

I have a tablet with virtual runs playing and music blasting out of my phone. I have been all over the world on my virtual runs, I was in New Zealand this morning, lol x

I did download an app for my tablet (although have deleted it now as I ran low on storage). This had virtual runs but also used the camera to estimate how fast you are running and adjusted the speed the video goes. It seemed to work OK but on a small tablet didnt really give the right effect. It probably would have been better on a larger screen on the wall in front.

What app is that? I might try that. I just use YouTube myself, lol

The app is called BitGym and is free although there are in app purchases. I did find others when i was looking but a lot cost before you can try them so went for that one. Good luck
