Well, I still can't run, but things are improving slowly. Had a face to face appointment, and she watched very closely as I tried various moves. She spotted that I was doing some things incorrectly, so she corrected that.

She has now added some nerve stretches to my exercises, because that was the problem with my glutes not working, and also why my calves are still so tight. This should get my glutes firing again more consistently. And it was actually both sides not just the injured side!

All the measurements showed that strength and range of movement is returning, so I just have to keep on with the exercises. (And do them correctly!)

Meanwhile I'll carry on lurking around here, because I love to see people going through the same life changing experience I started 3 years ago.

Happy running peeps!

I'm intrigued. What are nerve stretches?

Apparently the nerve can get held tight in the muscle. Nerve stretches don't really stretch the nerve, they get it sliding smoothly through the surrounding muscle. Otherwise say, doing a calf stretch will aggravate the nerve, instead of stretching the muscle. Or something like that. So you have to get the nerve sliding smoothly so that the muscle stretches work. I think. 😬Anyway, the nerve not working was stopping the muscle from working properly.

I can join you in the not running but lurking club grumpyoldgirl - I’m sure there must be lots more of us out there too! I wouldn’t say I’ve given up but I just haven’t run recently.. like you, I’m doing what I can..the swimming pool has reopened so I’ve swum three times this week, walks planned with friends for the next two days and loads to do in the garden.. I’m going to carry on lurking for a while I suspect.. so I’ll see your posts and hope your recovery progresses well.. it certainly sounds positive..🤞😊

Lurkers unite! 😁 I'm so glad to be able to get out and garden, it was so frustrating last summer when I was hobbling around on crutches.I'm not really a fan of swimming, but now you've mentioned it, maybe I should consider it 🤔

Best of luck with your recovery.

What an uplifting post grumps; so positive. It’s the key to all problems isn’t it, that confidence that you know what is wrong and belief that you gave a plan to fix it. That is of no use without your determination to follow it through of course. You absolutely deserve to get on top of this. If I was in bother, I would definitely want you on my side ! 👏👏👏👏👏

It’s true 🙂

Well, I had a proper wobble when I restarted c25k then had to stop again. I had no idea what was wrong. But now I know what is safe to do, and what not to do, I'm feeling more confident again.

Excellent; that is an important part of recovery isn’t it; what does it feel like? what did I do? what might I need to do to try to fix it? and how do I avoid repeating the same pattern? Logic, being methodical and understanding how you body works and avoiding tempting sort cuts.....not easy. 👍

Slow progress but progress all the same GOG. You will get there!

Thanks JP. It's so much easier to stick at it when I know what's going on, and what to do about it.

Lovely to hear you are making progress forwards with the help of your physio 😃It’s less frustrating when you identify what it is and what you need to do to get things sorted . I’m much better with ‘a plan’ and one that works !

Best of luck with moving forward 👌🙂

Thanks Racing, yes I do need everything to be written down for me - I'd never remember what I'm doing otherwise! 😂
