So i have been outed by my enthusiasm! As i signed up to a virtual 5k for charity and they sent me a free running top so i had to tell this husband m running 5k!
Great news is hes going to get me some sponsors. Bad news is this sign up means i have to do 5k by end of April! On Wk3R3 Monday π¬

That sounds a little premature to me. You have another 6 weeks ahead of you in the programme, and that puts you well into May for graduation, and you are unlikely to be running 5km in week 9.
Very brave of you to take that on. Donβt worry about trying to run the whole 5k though. Lots of us mix walking and running. Just go slow and walk when you feel like it. No pressure. Good luck π
Yes exactly! And to be honest my aim is to be able to 'run' 5k by June. And the actual challenge states you can run or walk your chosen distance in multiple session too so i will have ran 5K in April.
How exciting! Yes, do it, by W5 you should be running... 20 mins is it? If you extend your warm up and cool down walks you should get to 5K. Could you walk 5K now? If so, some running some walking will be fine. Wear that top with pride!
Do you get a medal as well?
One word of warning though... free tops and medals can become compulsive....
Best of luck, don't push too hard, but most of all enjoy it!
Best of luck Sammie, all going well you'd be due to graduate just before the end of April if my maths is right.
That would see you running for 30 mins which as a new runner may be around 4k (C25K title is misleading, only around 10/15% manage that in 30 mins)...so depending on how you feel and your pace you could:
either gently push yourself re:time and do one 5K run (my 1st was 3 weeks after graduation at 37 mins, others are faster or take 40/50 mins depending on natural speed) for your race, then drop back to 30 mins afterwards to consolidate
or run for 30/35 mins as a natural progression and walk the last bit...with maybe a run finish to give you that thrill over the finish line
Which ever works for you, depending on fitness, pace etc then wish you good luck and enjoy it ππ
Hi. I admire your enthusiasm! Be careful though. The podcasts recommend a day's rest inbetween runs to avoid injury. The other thing to be aware of is if you cannot complete a run because of trying to do too much too soon, you could find it really demotivating. I wish you all the very best π
I don't know your age and fitness level which will, of course, all come into play and, hopefully, could help you avoid injury if in your favour. Perhaps you already feel you are ready, or close to it, as if you were struggling you probably wouldn't be looking for extra challenges.I applaud your spirit to support charity, but don't over do it or you could find yourself off running for a time with injury.
Don't forget you can walk too! I wish you luck. π
I will be going 5K and running the distance im up to on the C25k programme. When i signed up i didnt realise it was by end of April(late last Saturday night) and my actual target for 'running' is to be at 5k for June!
Considering i never thought id run and now im running a little just lights me up and has changed my mindset.
