Morning!
I’ve completed week 1 which I’m amazed at and still feeling very proud of myself at! However I think I need to buy new shoes as I’m wearing very old not the best trainers - would anyone recommend a good trainer for me to look at?
Thanks xx

The best advice if you are to continue running would be to have a gait analysis done at a running shop and then they could advise the right running shoes for you. What is good or right for somebody else could be totally unsuitable for you
Thank you - I’m really hoping I do continue and get fitter and healthier (not to mention lose a little of the lockdown lard!) but incase I cave (which I’m hoping I don’t) I didn’t want to go to a great expense so was looking for a light nice running shoe to support the stage I’m at now! I appreciate your advice though and will consider it definitely- thank you x
This post about buying running shoes may help healthunlocked.com/couchto5... other people's recommendations with a pinch of salt..........they are not you, do not run like you and their favourite shoe might injure you.
Hi Ceri I started Couch to 5k last year and tried to do it in a pair of standard Reebok trainers, I ended up with an injury at the end of week 6 and had to stop ☹️. Anyway I have since invested in some proper running trainers that I bought from a specialised running shop. The brand I opted for was Saucony, they give me far more support. My advice is go to a running shoe shop and let them advise you, it will be money well spent!
As others have said, your shoe needs are unique. I doubt your feet would like the sort of shoes I run in, for instance. (See my profile.)
Most running shoe shops offer gait analysis, make recommendations based on that and allow you to try running a short distance in different types of shoes whilst you make your choice.
Although I can see the temptation to buy a bit cheaper in case you don't carry on, it could be money wasted in the long term...i bought a pair online (during lockdown so there wasn't much choice) but although they're lovely to walk in (and I'll continue to do that), they just weren't right for running. I've just been for advice at a running shop and ended up with a pair 1 1/2 sizes bigger(!) and due to all of their other advice I have a lot more confidence that they'll be right for me.
