Getting there

Hello everybody, I have done my first run of week 9, managed to to 30mins/4.5km, I am quite happy with that! I hope I will be able to raise the pace for the next 2 runs but I must say I am already really happy with me being able to run consistently for 30 mins!

I would have never imagined to be able to do it!

The enthusiasm got me buying a Garmin watch, still trying to work out how to read al the stats but it will help me for my future runs!

Well done.

Only a small proportion of graduates from this forum who responded to a poll, managed 5k in 30 minutes by graduation healthunlocked.com/couchto5....

Graduation requirements are that you complete three thirty minute runs, regardless of distance.

Thanks! Totally agree, the main focus is being able to get through the 3x30 mins runs, it is a top achievement for me.I can't deny though that now that running feels more normal and easier, the idea of actually aiming to do 5k in 30mins is quite tempting! :) Realistically I know that I will happily graduate keeping the 4.5km in 30mins ... to then keep it up and eventually manage the 5k in 30 mins :)

Well done.

But why the focus on hoping you can go faster in the next 2 runs?

It's just my competitive side I suppose :D I am fully aware that the main goal is being able to run 3x30mins over one week, and that is actually a massive achievement for me in itself! It's just that as I find myself more at ease running 30mind, I also started to consider to actually do the 5k in 30 mins, at least as my next goal after graduating

Don't over do it and end up on the injury couch before your final run. That inner competitiveness is a two edged sword: it keeps you going which is fantastic, but it can also get you injured if you try too hard. Most important - enjoy yourself.

You are absolutely right! I will keep this in mind, I think me working on my pace will take some weeks of conscious exercise. I might need some specific programmes, in order to avoid overdoing!
