A change in mind set

I posted last week re a nightmare of week 8 and treadmill running.

Firstly I’m so proud to say that after trying & in a way, failing, week 8 run 1, three times, and re reading so many posts.

I came to the conclusion I was judging my successes by being quicker & finishing stronger than my last run.

This is perhaps where a treadmill can be judge & executioner, as the speed is set & you either finish or fail or fall off the back lol, as I believed.

A change in mindset was what was needed.

The speed changed to a slower pace. I could still talk at the higher rate, but in hindsight, not as easily, so it worked.

If in doubt I slowed down even more to ensure the end goal was achieved.

Run 1 wk 8 complete & the difference to self belief changed.

Run 2 even better

Run 3, kept it again nice & slow & couldn’t believe I got to the last 2 minutes & felt I could run forever, (well at least to the end lol) so I speeded up a little bit to give a great feel good factor finish to the 28 minutes.

Now I never thought I’d say this but I’m really looking forward to week 9, full of motivation & a real feeling I can succeed.

Even went out yesterday & walked a local park run 5k course, which I still don’t feel I’m any way near there yet, but it gives me a goal to aim for once this course is complete.

With the biggest self conscious jump being to actually venture to out door running, which is something I’d never ever contemplated, but this course really can change a person.

Not even to mention the benefit of loosing over a stone In weight since the start, so I can really see & feel the benefit.

I’m sure others have this feel good factor & love the way it really can change not only mood, but self consciousness, a real sense of achievement, coupled with health benefits.

I’m loving the comradely

Thanks everyone

John

Well done.

Your body develops the aerobic base more effectively at an easy conversational pace than if you push harder.

If you cannot hold a conversation you are going too fast.

I think running on a treadmill is hardcore, outside is full of distractions whether it is scenery, animals, people, and so time passes by much quicker, give it a go, nobody gives you a second glance or if they do it is to cheer you on! Well done getting as far as you have - next week is going to be amazing!!

THAT is the perfect pace John! That's what everyone should be aiming for. Well done and crack on!

A lovely post to read Jed01! Well done. The mind is certainly a funny old thing - it’s not always on our side, but when it is, boom! Success! And congrats on the weight loss. I really hope you give outside a go, it’s perfect out there at the moment and the time goes by a lot faster. Week 9 here you come! Yay! 🏃‍♂️👍😊
