Motivating myself after my husband died

Hi All,

I have just completed run 2 on week 4. I have enjoyed the last two runs and am amazed that the deep pain in my knees has gone. I began running as my super fit marathon running partner died recently from a rare lung cancer and running helps. I have had to start dealing with the banking for myself and my two sons and other things I was scared of , and thought I might channel a bit of Mike my husband to help me along!!! I’m surrounded by his ( hundreds of) medals and I feel close to him as I stumble around the playing field. Really enjoying myself now and am motivated by running a 5 K for EGFR lung cancer if I remain uninjured

Welcome to the forum and well done on your progress. This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

Enjoy your journey.

hi and welcome. I am so sorry to hear about your husband, it must have been quite a shock, however much it is expected that still doesnt help does it. I wish you good luck with dealing with all those things like banking etc that you didnt have to do before, and am full of awe and praise that you have taken up running and hope it gives you a feeling of closeness with your husband. If you continue, you should find that running helps your mind as well as your body, and hopefully will help you through your loss. This is a very friendly forum and you will get a lot of support from everyone.

Sorry about your recent bereavement Mittymoo, I am sure your late husband would be very proud of you on starting C25K and running, take all the runs slowly, you can repeat any runs or week's if you wish to, drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration, no running on consecutive days as that could cause a injury, good luck for your running journey with C25K.

So sorry to hear about your husband. I’m in awe that you’ve taken this on along with everything else that’s new I’m on week 7 (and stuck there lol ) but I’ve enjoyed the challenge and it’s taken my mind off to happier places so I hope you find the same. I’m going to follow your journey ❤️

Your name really made me laugh! Badrun!!! Whats happened to week 7? I have just completed week 5 - run 2 today. Its a weird one because my hubby was such an awesome marathon and half marathon runner - even with lung cancer. Today I had moments of rage as I recalled him struggling to breathe and having to give up running then even walking. and thought I would dedicate my run to the pleasure of breathing really deeply with a light wind moving with me through the park. I will follow you too and see how you get on. Go go badrun!!!

Week 7 has been plagued with calf issues and - to put it politely - toilet issues. Apparently the latter is a thing ! Who knew ?! It sounds like you’ve been through a really hard time. I can’t imagine watching a loved one go through that. So beautiful that you can channel that in a positive way. Total inspiration. !

Oh Mittymoo, I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your husband.

And so impressed to hear that during this new and scary time you're channelling some of your energy into running...it's a great release and even on the days where you struggle it at least passes a little time in a positive way 😊👍

Good luck in your journey, and wishing you and your boys the very best x

Run46, I didnt reply to your lovely post. Big apologies that I missed it. Yes it's a scary time and the boys are up and down with such a big shock. It's their second big loss as Mike and I adopted them when they were young. The youngest has gone crazy for BMX biking which is serving him well and the eldest is just surfacing. Thanks for wishing them well.

So sorry to hear about you losing your hubby 🙁 You sound so courageous but I’m sure there are some very dark days. Good for you for starting the C25K challenge. It certainly helps me to get some ‘me time’ and some head space. I hope it helps you too. You sound like you’re doing well and enjoying it. So many people hate it at the start because it’s so hard so enjoying it is definitely a bonus 👍🏻. Keep checking in. This is such a supportive group that you will always find some encouragement and a kind word here xx
