Complete newcomer to running or any form of exercise since I was in my teens...bad, I know.
I startedrunning yesterday and completely ignored the app and just ran and walked as I saw fit (I was hoping to establish a baseline for my fitness, or lack of it). This was a mistake as every part of my body is berating me for my ignorance despite doing the cooldown stretches!
Will this type of pain subside as I get fitter/used to running?
Going forward, I'll stick to the plan though. Lesson learnt!

It's natural if you don't normally exercise to feel pain a day or two after, it should get easier the more often you do it. Try some stretching today to losen those muscles.
It's called DOMS - delayed onset muscle soreness.
Remove that pain!
Have a read of the attached links, all the advice you'll need is there, those stretches for before and after running, advice on hydration and lots more
I was much the same a month ago on week 1 run 1. After it I felt sick, my chest hurt so bad, I was aching. So uncomfortable and that feeling lasted about an hour. I thought, " I am so unfit, I can't do this" Basically I was running and brisk walking far too fast and hard.
Take. your. time. No-one can full on sprint for 5-k, don't think run, think jog. Annoying the app doesn't specify (from memory) until a few runs in that it is in fact a light jog. It's not about proving to yourself you can run really fast it's about light jogging for 5k (or 30 mins). I learnt that very quicky and it's something that's better to start sooner rather than later because the runs increase pretty quickly. I'm on week four and it's already up to 5 min runs (jogs). the best advice I have had on here is just that, take your time out there and enjoy it.
I stuck to the app completely and still ached for 4 days after my first run. But I promise you, it gets easier. I completed week 2 yesterday and I have no pain in my legs at all today. You'll be amazed how quickly you body adapts if you don't push it too far.
I done exactly the same, it was all a bit random, jogging and walking when I thought I should, or needed to. The C25K gives you a really good structure to follow and for me, it seemed to manage the aches and pains I was initially experiencing. Good Luck and ‘Trust in the App’ it knows what it’s doing, 👍👍 Make sure you get the stretching in as well.
Howdo you think your run compared with Day 1 of C25K in terms of when and how much you walked and ran? How long was your workout? Also, how were you running - were you trying to go fast or sticking to a slow jog?
Hi Stewy87 .....welcome to the forum. There’s is TONNES of advice on here so you’ve come to the right place...healthunlocked.com/couchto5...
This link will tell you all you need to know about running the C25k programme...I know it probably felt like you didn’t go for it hell for leather but today your body is telling you different!! The C25k programme is specifically designed to introduce you to running gradually...
Have a read, download the app if you haven’t already and pleeeeeeease tell you how you get on!!! Oh & slowly does it!! Good luck 😉
I was like you from running perspective (although I did comply with the programme) and in muscular pain for the first three weeks but then it just went away - now near end of week 7 and a happy bunny.
