Update ... Week 5

Evening all ... those who read my post 5 weeks ago about starting over (graduated in early 2016, worked up to Park Runs, 10ks, Half Marathons etc then lost it all last year when my running husband got ill in January 2020 with a heart condition, my mum got diagnosed with Alzheimers that progressed rapidly and I was travelling hundreds of miles a week to see her etc) will remember I said I'd check back as I had gotten the courage up to go out again and was starting from scratch. Well, today was Week 5, Run 3 and it's done. I've found it harder this time around but then I am 5 years older, a stone heavier than I was then (thanks legendary Covid stone, I'll blame you but I also know I played a hand in it!!!) and I'm still showing up for work 4 days a week as a midwife with no staff and pressure that we've never known as yes, pregnant women and their partners and their babies get Covid too alongside everything else we deal with day in day out so I'm a tad more knackered than I normally would be ... my B12 injection was also due in August but I'm a bit overdue (!!!) as couldn't be bothered looking after myself with it all going on last year so all excuses aside I still did it and will be tackling Week 6 on Wednesday. On the plus side, we moved my mum to a care home in the same village as us last Friday so after next week when her isolation period is over, it will take me 5 minutes to get to see her instead of 3 hours each way so if that isn't worth running for, I don't know what is! Thanks to all who posted words of encouragement when I last posted ... they obviously worked :-)

So good to have your mum nearby, keep running and it will get you through what is still being a horrible time,

Hang on in there and let your running be an oasis of calm amongst the withering chaos that surrounds you.

Relax, have fun and keep the pressure off for the best results.

You are doing great!
