Chances are, you'll find the next one easy. Keep going and happy New Year.

Hi, I found week 2 hard but kept going. I left 2 days between those runs I think and by week 3 felt much better. I'm only on week 4 but thought I would share 🙂. You can do it.

Are you going to fast? It's a common mistake, slow your next run down. You should be able to manage easy conversation,vi used to ( sometimes still do) recite my name address etc just to check I'm doing ok pace-wise

Hi, congratulations on keeping going!

After my first ever run in week 1, I thought I would never be able to do this. The next day I ached all over and hadn’t lost a stone...!! Gutted!

So I read the running guide and tips that go with the NHS Couch to 5k app plus the Couch to 5k common mistakes that people make from the Nerd Fitness website.

Run 2 - I just used all the tips. I ran slowly, I ran with small steps with my feet under my torso and my body leaning forwards (not striding) , I paid attention to how my feet hit the road, I drank plenty of water beforehand, I wasn’t carrying water anyway but would have ditched it if I was, I looked ahead and I kept going. I haven’t ached since and never had a stitch.

I always wondered why so many runners go slowly with small steps...who knew?!!

My 5 min warm up is a walk to a quiet, pleasant housing estate which is circular and I just run around it on the road (when safe) until I’ve done what I’m told! Then I have a 5 min walk home.

I’ve just done week 5 run 2 this evening. I repeated run 1 on Monday as last week I only did run 1 and then did Christmas instead! I am now fit enough to increase my pace with each run and put extra effort in for the last 60 seconds. Honestly, I can’t believe it!

I dont really pay attention to the time I have to spend running, I just think of it in songs so today was 8 minutes which was only 2 and a bit songs from Kylie’s new album which has an excellent disco beat throughout at the right beats per minute for my running!

I usually run on a Monday, Thursday and Saturday but it was too icy yesterday so went tonight instead. I’ll then go on Sunday and Tuesday then back to Thursday. I do the NHS Strength and Fitness course on other days.

I only started this to prove that I couldn’t run and yet here I am, middle aged chubster never having wanted to run, just putting one foot infront of the other and doing what the voice in my ear tells me to.

There will be barriers and I had my first “bad run” at the end of week 4 when it just felt all wrong but if I hadn’t read up on how to run correctly and mistakes to avoid and that some days you will have a bad run for no apparent reason then I wouldn’t have got as far as you have now.

You can do it. Good luck.
