Using a cross trainer or bike will build your cardio fitness, muscles and stamina but without the impact of running your muscle and bone development will not equal that of a runner.It is a great substitute if you cannot run and we have had various people do that over the years, on both bikes and cross trainers.
I completed the programme a few months ago but troubled by continual injuries to ankle and calf. Tried the slow runner which is worth looking at. I am now doing 7k regularly on the cross trainer set up in my shed. Would love to run but this is a compromise, it really makes a difference not having the pounding of running on my ankle and calf’s. So if you can’t run do it and maybe you will run again soon but will have build up the cardio
