Back problems - Should I stop?

Hi I'm very proud to have reached week 5 but am now experiencing tightness around my lower back. Am thinking maybe this is too high impact for me.

I can cope with aches and pains from ex but I've have a prolapsed disk which has left me with occasional sciatica. Should I keep going or not?

Welcome to the forum and well done on your progress.

Lower back pain is not uncommon and can easily be rectified by regular bridge and plank exercises, which will develop the solid core that all runners need.

My only caution would be around the fact that you have a prolapsed disc, in which case you would be safer getting advice from a GP or physio, rather than a bunch of strangers on the internet.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

Enjoy your journey.

Thanks - good advice. I've already booked a video appt with a physio who has teated me before. I'm going to see what he says about warm up, warm down and my running style. Thanks again

I would check with your gp re: prolapsed disk. Pilates & stretching exercises will help with stiffness. Walking also is good.

Hope the tightness eases soon.
