Hi, I am just about to start week 9 of c25k and I'm loving it, however, towards the end of my last few runs I've started getting a pain at the top of my ribs on the right which then sprwads round to my back, as I finish my walk it begins to ease off but is still there a bit. Any ideas what this might be, I'm a complete newbie!

Upper rib pain and round to my back
rachellb1 if I'm not mistaken that's a definite stitch pain! Perhaps take it easier next time out, but if that pains still there I'd get it checked 👍
Welcome to the forum and well done on your progress.Do you carry anything in your hands when running? This can cause shoulder and upper back pain due to tensions. Hands need to be unclenched and loose when running.
It could be a general posture issue. There is a link in the guide to an article about posture.
This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...
and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.
Enjoy your journey.
Hi and thanks, I do carry a small water bottle, usually in my right hand. I'll try swapping and see what happens
You would be better off not carrying it at all.If you are hydrated as explained in the guide, then you really do not need to carry water for any C25K workout.
I sometimes get this too and it’s just a different type of stitch pain I think. I know a few others have already said this.......what I think guards against it (for me anyway) is a conscious effort to deep breathe into my stomach for a few mins every couple of kilometres and also to remember to relax my shoulders and body whilst running. It’s amazing how tense and rigid you can become without really realising. I personally never need to carry water for runs up to and including 10k but I do for 10 miles and Half Marathon.
Hi, I had something similar... being a 36 F I had to make sure I was well supported with a good sports bra and this definitely helped! 😄
Hi rachellb1, i tried various places, but my Bravissimo Inspire sports bra was a game changer for me. Couldn’t believe the difference it made, I was evangelical, seriously! They aren’t cheap, but worth every penny, highly recommended.
