Having to stop programme as too much pain ... start week 4

Deflated having to stop at week 4 .. knee pain. Just about to start week 4 but have had to stop altogether and seek physio advice and reassess. Knee pain worsened over last week despite starting strengthening exercises in last few days. I can only limp now and feel fed up as was doing this with a friend. Had run v slow and am wondering if something wrong with me that means I just can’t do this. Deflated not the word as had not exercised for a long time and was so proud to get this far. Also if I do start again after a break am dreading sand happening again and will have to repeat weeks. Is this common ? Really knocked me back

Lots of us have breaks for injury and keep coming back to it.. I think the key is to keep trying.. do something other activity if possible to build strength and stamina.. be kind to yourself and stop when you need to.. but don’t give up altogether..😊

So sorry to hear that! One possible cause of joint pain is if you're landing your strides on your heel, with a straight leg, rather than on the whole of the foot with a very slightly bent leg.

You are quite right to have it checked.

Have you had gait analysis & bought proper running shoes yet? I found my sore inner sides of knees settled down when I had the right footwear. I also cycle alternating with running which helps with knee strength. 😄

I have restarted many times following illness/ injury- & I’m very glad I persevered. I can run for over an hour & am so much fitter, it’s been well worth the effort. 😄

Hi no I haven’t had gait analysis but will . I feel I can’t run at moment for them to check ( can barely walk today) and if tried to run for them to check I would be running falsely .. limping not in my typical stride so I feel I need to be well enough to get it checked so been a bit of a vicious circle this week but definitely will before I start again. I’ve heard lots say it makes a difference

If you can barely walk, you certainly shouldn’t be running & yes, do gait analysis when you can run normally - it doesn’t take long- I think I was filmed for 30 seconds-ish.

What you have achieved so far is all “good miles in the bank “ as we used to say in my old running days .Dont ever think it was in vain !

Injuries are a part of running your body will often throw out issues ,asesss it problem solve it and then pick up where you left off .

In the meantime if you can’t run do a replace aerobic activity that won’t impact your knee until your body recovers .

You are feeling dejected and down because you have runners blues ,this happens because over the weeks you have been training your body had produced endorphins into your system giving a feeling of well being which is produced when you run ,it’s called a runners high for that exact reason ! When your forced to stop in this case through injury your body craves the natural high so u feel s.........

Head up buddy come back stronger !
