Week 7 - Run 3 complete! No shin splints!

Finished week 7, and feeling pretty darn good about myself!

For anyone suffering with shin splints as I did for the first 3-4 weeks, I can't emphasize enough how good shoes help. Until recently I ran solely on grass to avoid any pain in my shins, but now as winter draws in (and it gets very muddy!) I knew I had to go back to the roads and pavements.

I forced myself to go get my gait analysis at a running shoe shop and bought the right shoes for my over pronation. With a bit of care and extended rest periods, the shin splints have gone away and I'm running on asphalt without any problems now! I'm over the moon!

I feel like I'm a "runner" now, something I honestly still can't get over.

Yesterday for my last run of the week I pushed myself and got my fastest pace yet - 7:45/km, which was 3.22km in 25 mins (still slow by most standards, and I'm aware it's not about speed but more about time/distance run, but for me it made it even sweeter!)

Can't wait to graduate now, I feel like I've come on leaps and bounds this week!

Does anyone have any good 5k-10k apps that kind of continue the structure of C25K? I really quite like being talked to and I find the routine very helpful.

Tom.

Good shoes are really important - not just shin splints, but to protect all your joints and muscles. Well done for investing! I thought I'd miss the app structure, but actually it was really nice to get away from it. You can use strava or mapmyrun or one of the many other running apps, to call out times or distance for you if that helps. For structure, once I'd consolidated for a while, to get to 10k I followed ju-ju's magic 10k plan over on the Bridge to 10k forum - it's great!

Hello Linda, thanks for your reply! I'd love to use Strava for calling out the times (or distances would be even better), I only have the free version, I can't seem to work out how to do that? Could you maybe point me in the right direction? Awesome! I will take a look! Yeah I think I'll probably keep doing 5ks for a couple weeks and go from there :)
