Well, that was not pretty but I got it done. It's been a tricky week, I'd usually do my runs Mon/Weds/Fri but this week, I had to take a break in the middle with various niggles I didn’t want to push. I was all set to get up early for my run but woke with a thumping headache this morning and decided to give it a miss and do it later. Uh oh..I know what I’m like if I don’t get exercise done first thing, always so many excuses not to do it so I was onto myself ..haha.. and as soon as I got home from work, got my kit on and got out.
It was mildly spitting with rain, no biggie..quite nice. However, I do NOT like running at this new time! After school pick ups, kids and scooters everywhere, dogs… just PEOPLE. Much prefer a 7am run when it’s so much quieter. It was just so weird to see all these people everywhere, just not used to it!
After the joys of Week 6 and run 1 of Week 7, this run felt like a massive struggle and I was longing to hear Jo’s voice tell me I had 5mins left and she came on to say I’d done 12 and a half minutes …ARGHHH! At one point I realised I could hear my heavy breathing over the 90’s dance tunes in my ears!! I slogged on onto soggy parkland and made it.. It was a struggle but I did it. Hurrah!
This place makes you accountable and it is GOOD: if I was doing my own thing and not following the program, no doubt I would have bailed at 15mins today but I had it in my head like a mantra, “DON’T STOP!” and it worked. I really thought I couldn’t do 25mins today but I proved myself wrong.
I’d run quite far from home (2km) so thought I’d turn around at the end and do the 5min fast walk cool down and a bit of a walk. Haha! The light spitting turned to heavy downpour and I had no choice really but to jog again to get home. Running in the driving rain..well, you have to smile don’t you?? Absolutely crazy, soaked through and laughing as I got onto my street, looking like a manic Alice Cooper, such a great look. The old me would’ve stood under a tree until the rain stopped! So I think I ended up running 35mins all in so am happy with that.
Curry tonight to celebrate, woohoo! Happy running everyone!
