So glad I didnโt waver and do this run yesterday ! Today dawned quiet and calm with no roar of the north wind and no rain battering against the windows .
On looking out the poor trees that got a whipping yesterday stood quietly still if a little less leafy ๐
Got myself out and hoped the dark clouds would scuttle past and give me the 40 mins I needed .
I had decided to sacrifice the music this morning so that I could run ( & celebrate ๐ค) with Jo . Having been abandoned by her several times ( Iโm a sucker for forgiveness and redemption ๐๐ ) I thought best idea was to just have the app going on my phone ๐
However we all know a run would not be a run without the challenge of those App, phone and music glitches ๐คท๐ผโโ๏ธ So when that vacant silence descended I wasnโt exactly surprised .
Luckily it was at 4 mins into my warm up walk so I quickly downloaded the podcast . All good ! I would have Laura to talk to me and some music . Off I went ๐
After a bit of a rubbish R2 I was going to make sure that I really enjoyed this one.To do this I had to start off slowly and not bolt off . Iโm not in the vicinity of doing 5km so no thoughts of that either. Only goal was to keep it steady , have a lovely run and celebrate how far Iโd come from wk1.
I changed my route today and headed off towards the village ( living dangerously ๐ฑ) . I wanted to do a bit of meandering as it seems to work well for me ๐ and I just ran around the streets and squares before heading off on my usual route on the long road down to the shore . This meandering took a full ten minutes .... brilliant !
Not so brilliant I pulled the headphone jack out of my phone as I peeled off my jumper . This stopped the podcast which took itself back to the start . I kept running ( no need to worry about keeping my pace slow now ๐๐) but by the time I got out of my tangle I had to try and fast forward the podcast to where I was . Iโve never made a good job of that either.
Anyway got it near enough , maybe 2/3 mins behind my watch ๐คท๐ผโโ๏ธ Itโs all part of the fun really isnโt it๐
Very quickly it seemed Laura said it was 20 minutes and glitches aside I was running at my happy pace with ten mins to go .
I had discovered how to set my garmin to alert me if my pace was too fast and on my last run it was buzzing at me all the time . This run I was hardly hearing a cheep out of it so I was doing something right ๐๐
In the end my watch alerted 30 mins but I waited for Laura to catch up and celebrate so I actually ran about 33mins .
Most importantly I was back to a comfortable happy โstop and smell the Rosesโ kinda run ( well not literally ๐) but I was more engaged with my environment than worrying about the run which is exactly right for me .
I have achieved exactly what I wanted from way back in wk1 , to be able to go for a run round the village . Now I can run down the road turn left for the beach , have a coffee at the beach cafe or turn right and run down to the lighthouse and watch the boats on the sea or head up to the quiet old parts and run down the lanes and around the churches and the โbig housesโ ....... what a lovely thing to be able to do of a summer evening ๐
Challenge will be to keep going as the winter creeps in but I believe I will . I have no big goals but Iโd like to consolidate my 30 mins into being โeffortlessโ building up my stamina and then do the incremental 10% business ๐๐
I saw a lady running the other day , not fast running but the slow steady kind. She reminded me of a swan , her movement was almost gliding her upper body not โbobbingโ at all . All the forward movement from her legs .
I want that kind of effortless ๐ฆข๐ฆข๐ฆข
Congratulations to all who have achieved this recently and to all who are about to
Be proud ๐
What a lovely place to have found in this forum , so many lovely, friendly and helpful people . Think Iโll stick around ๐ฅฐ
The photo is a collage of various things I passed on my โrunning highโ walk home in some Autumn sunshine no less ! this morning ........ plus the red post box ๐คฆโโ๏ธ๐
Around about wk 1/2 I was so self conscious that Iโd nip down lanes or do u turns if I saw people . This is the โ lady in the red anorakโ that was talking for ages up ahead and I had nowhere to detour to and she was never moving !
. As I got nearer I realised it was the red post box .
500 metres out anyone could make the same mistake Iโm sure youโd agree ๐๐

Yay! Look at that shiny new graduate badge, looks good doesn't it ๐
So I've had a look at your nemesis, and for the full effect I took my glasses off, held my phone at arms length and squinted. Definitely a lady in a red anorak! ๐๐ค
Many thanks ๐ yes itโs only taken me 40 years of house moves to get to live by the sea ,. Better late than never and I am thankful ๐ seemed a shame not to run round it ๐
*Such* a wonderful account of your run! The drama does help, doesnโt it?๐ All these little things that would have thrown you in the early days are now mere teeny tiny hurdles that you know you can overcome ๐
Congrats again, graduate ๐โจ I have the biggest smile for you. Go channel your inner swan and keep us updated with your lovely pictures and progress xx
I do believe I will hear โchannel your inner swanโ on every future run I ever set forth on ๐๐๐ปโโ๏ธ๐ฆข๐ฆข
I did enjoy my run though , kept myself in check and yes we are so used to the glitches , they barely get a sigh ๐คฆโโ๏ธ.
Wishing you sunny days for your last run , Iโm sure the horses, foals , โcoosโ and calves will have the bunting out for you ๐๐๐๐ด๐ด ๐๐ป๐ป๐ป๐ป
Congratulations on graduating from C25K, by all means keep reporting your runs on this form, after several 30 minute consolidation runs you could try the C25K+ podcasts with Laura then if you wish do Ju Ju's Magic 10 plan if you want to run a 10K.
Congratulations on graduating and what a way to do it! ๐ฅณ๐ฅณ๐ฅณ
Iโm so pleased for you that everything felt right (even with the technical glitches) and that youโve got your plans to consolidate well under way ๐
Thank you ๐ yes I was quite chuffed with it . Kept my pace steady which is key for me to enjoy the run and just accepted the glitches are part of the experience for me it seems ๐๐
Yes I really enjoyed it which was the one thing I was absolutely determined to do . I hope to slowly increase my distance and stamina now but Iโll take cool calm and collected over it any day ๐๐
Great plan! After youโve done a few consolidation runs you should check out the C25K+ Stepping Stone series ... they are designed to increases distance, speed & stamina ๐
What a lovely post! Well done on graduation and a fantastic attitude to life! Maybe next time you find yourself without music you could play โchariots of fireโ in your head! Itโs got that slow but authentic, and inspiring vibe I just got from reading your post!
Amazingly, we have a red-coated gossipy woman in our village too!
The Chariots of Fire soundtrack would have been so right to match my โSwan vibeโ ....... I wonโt be able to get that vision out of my head for some time now ๐๐ ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ๐ฆข๐ฅ
Many congratulations ๐ what a lovely post, made me all teary reading it. Your graduate badge looks mighty fine and well deserved ๐
Iโm just heading off to start W9 and once graduated I think my goals are similar to yours, I would really like to be able to run comfortably for 30 minutes, then one day for 5k in however long that takes.
Hope you are enjoying your celebrations ๐ฅณ
You can now concentrate on channelling your inner swan and yes....itโs definitely a lady in a red anorak ๐
Thank you ! And yes itโs quite a thing this โrunning thingโ . I am just so happy with what I can do having ruled myself out of running all my life .
Iโm fortunate to live in a lovely neck of the woods and as much as I enjoy some lovely walking I just thought it would be lovely to be one of those people I see jogging around .
Iโm a way off 5km ( Iโm around 4 and happy with that ) but itโll be something to work towards . I think we will get better as we practise, build up stamina and be able to go further ๐
What they say about running slow is so true , if I up the pace I donโt enjoy it , end up huffing and puffing and looking like a ๐ ๐
Not in tune with my Swan vibe at all ๐ฆข๐ฆข. ๐
I hope you have an excellent wk 9 and enjoy all your runs in some autumn sunshine to enjoy all those ๐๐๐๐ณ๐ณ
Also thank you , I feel totally vindicated now re the โlady in redโ ๐
Fantastic post! Sorry, I must have missed it the other day but congratulations again on your graduation! Your love for running really came through in this description and the newfound sense of freedom that comes with being able to adjust your route as you please must be wonderful. I'm with you on the wanting to seem a bit more effortless. Think I look like a disoriented duckling than a gliding swan haha but I guess that's what the consolidation phase is all about.
Ps. I love the colours on that tree in your photo and the red letterbox had me giggling ๐
Thank you , I was quite firm with myself in terms of not messing up my enjoyment of this run by running the first half too fast and then going into huffing and puffing mode.
I literally went round the wee streets and lanes ( still quiet as was early except people off to the bakers etc.) and it used up a fair bit of time .
Iโm going to do more of that I think . I think too weโre still learning what we can do, and we will continue to get better and more relaxed & โeffortlessโ the more we do it .
Just need to keep doing it , I have a fear of allowing myself to fall by the wayside after all this effort ๐ฑ๐
