So today I was all set to start Week 4 of the Magic 10K Plan over on the Bridge to 10K forum. The short run of the week was on the agenda - a 4K.
My running gear was on and I was out to the main front door before an auto-pilot kicked in and I was back at the kettle preparing a coffee βοΈ
Admittedly, I was sidetracked by the news but my body and mind had obviously made a deal without me to rest another day today π€
Iβm not going to argue with them - I do think I need an extra days rest before starting this week which includes a 4K, 5K and an 8K. I did just do a 7K two days ago so my body must need to recharge and recuperate.
Not sure the point of my post really π€·ββοΈ .... besides maybe that we should all listen to your body without feeling guilty. We canβt achieve new things if we are running half empty!
At least you made it to the door! I made it out of bed.... but not for long! Had a terrible insomnia night last night, and just didn't feel I had it in me. I thought I would feel guilty all day... but I think it was a sensible decision. Completely agree with what you say... our bodies know best!
You obviously didnβt feel up to it PhoenixRise so did the sensible thing, listened to your body and took some extra rest. No need to feel guilty, youβll run all the better when you feel rested and refreshed π
You made the right call PhoenixRise - you listened to your body! I am on a second rest day too, having fallenπ³towards the end of my 10k on Sunday ( yes, of course I carried on running! π). Work was busy today and I was shattered and it's going to be a lot cooler tomorrow! π
You are making excellent progress and have been knocking out very speedy runs - we often come back stronger after an extra rest day or two - sometimes even more. New runners can plateau or become more prone to injury when they do too much too soon - if running is a change for life..there's no rush! π€·ββοΈ
Hope you managed to relax a little on your guilt-free rest day - although the ongoing situation is pretty tough isn't it? Enjoy your run when you get out. π
Thanks Sandraj39 ππ» Yes, Iβve learned the hard way to listen to my body over the years! Oh no π€¦ββοΈ I hope the fall wasnβt too bad?! Great that you carried on running! πͺ
Yes, a lot cooler today βοΈ π€
Thanks for your kind words about my progress. I suppose I have been knocking out some speedy runs. I did get a bit disheartened by seeing someone doing an Ave. 4:30/km 5K but reminded myself that I am nearing a big birthday and wasnβt running at all before May this year!
I did manage to enjoy a guilt-free rest day - kind of. The ongoing situation is really tough what with trying to find new work in these uncertain times π
My run later will set me up for the day of job hunting ahead though πͺ πββοΈ
Thanks TinyTears60 ππ» Yes, a fair few Kβs to cover this week! π± Itβs wet βοΈ today so that might push me round the course a bit quicker π€
"Not sure the point of my post really..." yet you got a dozen replies. Some days are not destined to be run days, either circumstances or the needs of our bodies.
The weather is foul today (hammering down with rain) and I've lost my "sensible shoes" (no toes but waterproof) somewhere in the house. Maybe that's a sign I shouldn't walk later when the rain lets up?
