Hydrate, stretch after every run and reduce impact stresses as mentioned in the guide to the plan.

Are you planning on doing some bodybuilding?

Is there a lack of protein in your normal diet?

You probably don't need to supplement with a waste product from the cheese making process.

Why do you want that? You shouldn’t need any thing extra to do couch to 5k.

Make sure you do mobility stretching as well as static stretching. Do it the day before you run to really mobilize your hips. Try drinking some milk after your run for the protein. I have thought about protein powders myself but only take it if you aren’t getting enough protein and/or feel hungry a lot.

Hi,

Mobility stretching? That sounds interesting. What is it?

I already have trouble knowing what static stretching to do, so I just stretch for about 30 seconds.

Type in mobility stretching on YouTube, lots of videos you can do from there. They are more of a moving stretch and really help to open up hips and tight muscles. Almost like a mini workout.

Hi Hannah861

I've got some good news and some bad news for you.

The bad news first. Running and other cardio forms of exercise aren't very effective for weight-loss, simply because they burn less calories than you think and you have to do a lot of hours per week to get a significant calorie burn.

Various studies have found that running burns 1 calorie, per kilogram of bodyweight, per kilometer.

So if you weigh 60 kg and run for 3km - that's 60x3 = 180 cals.

Another simpler way, you need to run about 1 mile to burn about 100 calories. So 5k (3.1 miles) burns 'only' 300 calories. That's about 2 bottles of beer or a couple glasses of wine, or a small burger. Or... a chocolate bar. Not much is it?

If weight-loss is a big goal for you, then making changes to what/how you eat and drink will have a much bigger impact. One of the most time-efficient forms of exercise seems to be weight-lifting - there are some brilliant stories on YouTube from people who have lost huge amounts of weight by lifting.

Now the good news. Running is a great form of exercise, both physically and mentally. It generally isn't expensive and for most people, gets you out of the house and enjoying the fresh air and it's relatively easy to make significant progress.

Hope that helps!

John

A combo of Running and Joe Wicks is a great way to start . And a combo of those 2, AND healthier eating is even better.

Running can create a virtuous circle - you wanting to improve and you realise that eating and drinking better can help. Your running improves, your fitness improves and your health improves.

Good luck!
