I stepped out of my front door this morning about 5.30 and sighed with contentment! The wind had dropped, it wasn’t raining, it was cool and the air quality was excellent! Today was the day I was going to run 4K in LESS than 30 minutes. This has eluded me so far and now I only get one chance a week where I really push it on a run as my other 2 runs are slow ones.
Looking at my stats for previous runs, I often set out too quickly and then have to recover in the second kilometre. So .... today was going to be different! I’m not going to fall for that one again! Definitely not!
Well, I did 😂. I glance at my watch at the end of the first km and it shows pace was 7:11/km Wait, what? That’s faster than I’ve ever run before! I now have to work doubly hard not to drop pace too much in the second km. That goes ok - and the third km, too. All was going well, but in the fourth km I start to get a stitch. I run through it, but it did slow me down a little. These things happen and I expect it was because I was pushing myself pretty hard.
I get to the end and hit ‘stop’ on my watch. I’m able to see straight away that I’ve done it. 4K in less than 30 minutes! Very satisfied. 😊
Everything was right this morning. My frame of mind, the weather, air quality. So wonderful to be out running when it all comes together like this!
Now eating my porridge - the breakfast of Champions 😀.
