W4R2 - Nine Inch NAILED IT

Was that my best run so far? I think it might be, although I definitely didn’t feel that way during the first part. But then that’s been happening a lot lately, the start feels a little rough before I get into it.

So I’m taking a Blondie break because while running, working, driving, cooking and doing any other activity that can include background music, I’ve listened to nothing else so as much as I love it, I’m a little Blondied out.

I needed a change of pace so I went with Nine Inch Nails, which really is a massive change of pace. It’s not really a band that springs to mind when you look for running music but that’s what I felt like listening to so I put With Teeth on. It’s a great album, some good slow moody songs for walking and down aggressively energetic ones for getting stuff done. It’s a pity it didn’t quite line up that way with the run structure but I had a good time with it anyway.

This was meant to be a Thursday run but life looked at my plans and said “nope, here’s some distractions” so it ended up being a Friday night thing, but that’s Fine Inch Nails because it really was a nice way to end the (working) week.

It actually almost didn’t work out that way either as I had to do a bit of driving around once I’d finished work, which meant a late dinner, which meant an even later run. Fortunately I managed to get a snack in during these errands so I had something to run on before dinner. I got back to Mine Inch Nails, put the kids to bed, and headed out.

The garden was wet because we’d had a pretty crazy storm with rain and Nine Inch Gales but it wasn’t too slippery and because the ground was softer it made the bumps a lot more comfortable to run on.

So off I went on the warmup walk around the garden with some moody angsty rock to, I guess, encourage me? It worked pretty well to be honest. Then came the first three minute run and it was a little bit of a struggle so I was worried this would turn into a Nine Inch Fail but it turned out I had no reason to be concerned because when the first five minute run rolled around my legs had woken up and I was more than ready for it.

But I knew better after the last run and thought I’d better take it easy so I ran very slowly like a Nine Inch Snail to make sure I didn’t burn out too soon. I think it’s a good sign when you’re so into a run that you absentmindedly speed up without realising and don’t feel any discomfort because of it. I try to distract myself a bit sometimes and go on autopilot. On this occasion I thought about the sitcom pilot I want to write. It’s set in a video shop in the 80s but it might be an awful idea so I won’t go into it here.

Anyway the five minutes passed pleasantly, as did the next three minutes and I think it really helped that it was a cooler night because I didn’t heat up quite as quickly this time. So the final five minutes started and at this point I thought I might actually be able to get a little sprint in at the end but about halfway through this one my body caught up with my mind and I started to get a few pains so I decided it would best not to this time just in case I went off the Nine Inch Rails.

So I puffed my way to the end of it with a satisfying if unexceptional finish (that’s not what she said), glowing red and sweaty as usual (you’re still doing it) but I felt a lot better about it than the last attempt. There’s still a chance to sprint before the week is out but I won’t force it if it’s too much too soon.

Overall it was a great run with minimal difficulties that’s really got me feeling positive going forwards. So I went in to relax with dinner and some Wine Inch Nails. Hopefully I’ll be finishing this week on Sunday at some point and then I can move onto Week 5 and REALLY get into it. I’m looking forward to it, I’m ready.

That was great reading your post, and enjoyed your running experience, well done you are doing great

Are you running round your garden?

Yeah I recently moved house and I’m lucky enough to have a decent garden to run up and down. It wouldn’t be my first choice but I haven’t explored the area yet but I’m a bit paranoid about the virus and other people getting to close, plus people have been mugged at knife point in the nearest park recently so I’d rather keep it safe and boring for now!

Well done for the run! Enjoyed your post. It seems that running in your garden is safest for now, but eventually you may want to leave it and find some Nine Inch Trails.

Lol, great post and run 😅

The 1st few minutes are always the most difficult, at some point on here you'll hear it referred to as the toxic 10 😏

Trent, is that you? You don't need to do this to promote your music, there are less complex ways.

The puns are fantastic, and i think this sort of thing IS good running music, you did the right thing!
