Really dumb question (probably)

Just about to go out in the heat! I've got it into my head that if I have a drink of water immediately before /while running, I'm more likely to get a stitch. Is that right? 🌞

Not too sure. I have half a banana and a large mug of tea before I go out and then drink when I get back. I don't carry water on the run.

No. You're are likely to get stitches if you are not properly hydrated (if you're not drinking enough daily/every day). That would be 2-3 litres of water. If you're drinking during the run, most of that water will simply not enter the system by the time you're finished. It will simply slosh around your stomach. However, that does not mean that you should not carry and drink water during very hot water if you are likely to spend longer time out there running. I would.

A stitch can be caused by drinking while running, but probably more likely from poor hydration.

Anything you drink immediately before a C25k workout is going to have precious little effect on your general hydration, though you should still do it. What you drink in the hours before your run makes more difference.

This post about hydration stresses the crucial importance of adequate water intake to all runners healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

Well done! No it wasn't OK!! I was just about to leave the house when I got a call from my hubby who needed rescuing, so I had to abandon my run!! Too hot now 😞

Use the pee test to check if you need hydrating.

If your pee is clear and light in colour, you're good to go and don't need anything to drink before you go out - assuming you're not about to do 2 hours in temperatures over 30C!
