W2R3 & weight gain

Just completed week two and found it hard today. Maybe it’s because it’s warm today. But I weighed myself and I’m half a stone heavier! Wouldn’t mind if I maintained weight but I’m trying to loose weight and this half a stone heavier has totally knocked me and my confidence.

Congratulations and well done on completing week 2!!! Amazing work!!!

Please don’t be disheartened. You are building muscle and muscle is dense. You are probably losing weight but gaining muscle at the same time ....

Try to avoid the scales for a while and instead observe the changes with your body in your reflection! Or measure yourself instead ... you’ll see the difference and boost your confidence!

.....also running is only an effective weight loss tool if you are careful with your diet as well. I am on week 5 and in weeks 1 and 2 I started having food treats as a reward to myself, which is not going to help with weight loss sadly. I am now back on a healthy regime of eating and only allow myself some treats (ice cream, croissants, potatoes etc.) at the weekend. So 5 good days, and 2 relaxed eating days! Works for me, and I am now seeing a difference.

Well done you!

I've combined changing my diet with exercise - cut out all High-GI carbs eg. Bread, potatoes, rice and pastsa. Substituted with Cauliflower rice and lentils - you get used to it and it works. I still allow the odd treat too! I've lost 15kg since November - gave me the incentive to crack on with C25K - easier on the knees being a bit lighter too! , My weight varies within a kg day to day as well. you can do it! Keep going!

It’ll be fluid filling up the micro tears from running. Temporary.

My weight stabilised more or less after about six months of running. However, while being the same weight within plus or minus five pounds this last year, my waist size has gone down two inches. Muscle weighs more than fat, and also my weight is now distributed far better around my body :)

Much more importantly than how I look though is how I feel - great - and how INTERNALLY healthy my body is - Doc says I'm adding active years to my life :)

So, please just continue to take it "slow and steady" ank like Graduation the other rewards will also show up :)

Wishing you many happy miles in your future :)

The amount of calories you burn doing couch to 5k isn't enough to make a significant amount of difference to your weight. If you combine it with a healthy diet, and maybe Myfitnesspal, you should start to notice changes.

Two things though: I lost 3 stone before I started running and running has saved me from a lifetime of yoyo dieting. It can definitely motivate you to make healthy choices. Also, you will start to notice your body change shape as you become more toned. I have a proper 🍑 for the first time in 20 years! Use a tape measure on tour waist, rather than scales.

Good luck 👍
