You ever feel like....

something special is about to happen?

I actually can’t believe this, my first morning run, my first 10K. Completely gob smacked. I actually sat in my car typing this wiping tears out of my eyes.

At the end of March I could barely run for 60 seconds, how have a just run 10K. What the hell is going on, it was horrendous out, torrential rain and I lived every minister of it.

I’ve officially lost it 😂 I’m knackered, I’m buzzing delirious even, but most of early I’m starving, so I’m off home to celebrate with some scrambled eggs 😂

P.S. those of you near the beginning or struggling at any stage, never give up, forget about everyone else, take your time and run your own ‘race’ I promise you it is so worth it and completely achievable, you’re all amazing ☺️

Thank you so much for this post. I’m at the end of week one, dreading run 3, second run was harder than first and feeling unfit and have been trying to lose weight for 2 years, I lose a stone and then get fed up so have been losing and gaining that same stone for 2 years.

I don’t want to be fat and unfit though so will stick with it. Well done you for this amazing achievement.

If run 2 was hard you may find run 3 is slightly less hard. There are going to be good days and bad days. The biggest battle is the mental one. You will be surprised at how your body will adapt.

Don't forget to keep hydrated. If you start getting dark pee (I did) it's a sign you're not drinking nearly enough. Don't forget the rest days: that's when your body has time to repair and build for the next run.

Well done ! To see 10km on your phone must be a buzz. Hitting a landmark like that must of seemed impossible at the beginning. Well done again for your achievement 👍

Well done! I also did my longest run of 65 minutes today which was 140m shy of 10k 😂. I think we started C25K at a similar time (I started 31st March) and I struggled with 1 minute runs then! Look how far we have come, the programme is Magic! Good work Dtay, enjoy your Saturday and be very proud of yourself 👏 👏 👏😀

Oh no! I don’t know whether to be happy or sad for you 😂 65 mins is amazing, but 140m to go, did you feel a little annoyed, I think I would have been 😂 well done

BeetrootFace77 profile image
BeetrootFace77Graduate in reply to Dtay1978

I’m happy, I’ve decided I get to have 2 celebrations, 1 for running more than an hour, and then next long I’ll go the extra 140m and have a 10k celebration 🥳 🍾 🤣

OMG Dtay😳..that is just fantastic. 🙌👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

I find your posts so inspirational.

I graduated not far behind you. And I'm struggling to achieve 5k still. My aim has now changed. I want to try and get up to 10 k. As I hope to be able to raise funds for mental health. As you had a very similar finnish time to me, on your graduation 5k. Can you give me some tips, as to how you increased your distance? I trail run.

Dtay1978 profile image
Dtay1978Graduate in reply to Nervousrunner

Aww that’s so lovely to hear ☺️

Since I completed the plan I’ve just done what I’ve wanted to, to be honest. I’ve stuck to the basic principles with regards to hydration and warming up and down, making sure I’ve eaten right to have enough energy for whatever is to come.

But when I go out it’s never with anything particular in mind other than to have a run. Mentally, running can be so difficult, and I would go as far as to say more so than the physical.

so I chose to keep my mind free of pressure and unnecessary burdens, like ‘I must do this or I must do that’.

Listening to your body is key, so I just start my run and my only focus is to get into a comfortable stride. Nice and easy does it, setting off like a rocket will only come back to haunt you.

It’s only when I’m about 10 mins or so in that I start to think about distance, and it is only ever distance. I never think about time, again another unnecessary pressure.

I’m out there to relax and enjoy what I’m doing, why do I need to worry about time, I’ll take as long as I take.

I’m a big believer in doing what makes you feel comfortable, and comfort comes from many things, Do I feel ok? Are the things I’m wearing comfortable, clothes, shoes etc? What’s going to help me relax while I run, music, podcast etc?

When I get out there I want to able to forget about everything else. Remember a relaxed mind equals a relaxed body, run free and in peace.

Sorry for the long post 😂 Hope it’s been helpful 😊

Thank you for taking the time to reply. Very helpful.

I do go slowly still, especially before 10 min barrier.

But you are right about feeling relaxed.

With the things going on in my life at the moment. I am most definitely not relaxed

Clothes...yes

Music ...yes.

Mind...no

But,I need to try and find a way to chanel the stress levels into motivation. As I am so determined to raise funds for mental health.

I find your journey amazing. And as I said very inspirational. I look forward to seeing your progress through your posts. Well done you 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Ok, so now I can give the reply that you deserve !

I was just going out to work when you posted and could not think what to say !

I was not expecting a 10k post to say the least ! 😂

Very very well done ! 👏👏👏

That is absolutely amazing .

I bet you are still buzzing 😬👍

1 hour 39 minutes running !

That's incredible , I hope you will have a decent rest now ?

Did you intend to do a 10k when you went out ?

Or did you make it just evolve as you went along ?

I would be happy to be doing 5k that soon after graduating haha (that's assuming I can graduate !)

Looks like you had a nice steady pace as well with a nice average heart rate !

I'm so impressed and inspired by this 😬

What can amazing achievement.

Congratulations and enjoy basking in your success 😬🏃🎉

Dtay1978 profile image
Dtay1978Graduate in reply to Instructor57

Wow, thanks for that 😊

No, as I mentioned to Nervousrunner, I don’t think that far ahead. I just get out there and get going and get a feel for my body then take it from there.

Yep planning on having my feet up for the rest of the day now, playing catch up with my Sky Q box, probably eating a lot and drinking gallons of water 😂

Of course you’ll graduate, you’ll absolutely smash it 😊

Incredible, well done, my next challenge is to get to 5K! As I only finished yesterday, what is the next step, just keep running for 30 minutes or do I try and steadily make it to 5K?

Inspirational words, thanks, I think I will definitely cry if I reach 10K, let alone run for that long.

Well done

Dtay1978 profile image
Dtay1978Graduate in reply to runtoeatchocs

Thanks 😊

Either or, whatever you’re comfortable with is always what I lean toward. Some people like to try and squeeze that 5K into the 30 minutes. I was never that bothered myself.

I just always remember from the app, Sarah used to say that distance was the key to build your stamina, so that’s what I went with 🙂

We could be twins! 😂 I started couch to 5k in the middle of April, graduated and completed my 2nd 10k on Saturday. Our times are practically identical!

Like you, I am not bothered by timings but love the feeling of accomplishment from distance.

Huge congratulations to you, we can now describe ourselves as “real life runners” 🎉
