Right so here we are. Well and truly into the running now but I have come across a barrier I can't quite overcome......yet. any advice would be awesome though. I can easily run 5km in 30 minutes and am actually running 5.7-5.8km in that time. I am so close to 6km but can't quite seem to reach it within 30 mins. Any advice please?

Slow down!

That’s my advice.

The best way to improve your pace would be to slow down and bridge to 10k. You seem to be very fast!

Wow- that’s seriously fast! Fast running 🏃🏻‍♂️ 💨

Is it sprint or distance you want to achieve?

I’m not expert but I would slow down a bit... will leave more in the tank to go further 6k and beyond 😀

It's interesting how both of you said for me to slow down and I will try and take that on board. My issue is that slowing down makes me hurt and I don't consider myself fast as it is all relative to the runner?

Ideally I would like to go for pace and get that 6km in under 30mins and then I will take it from there. I am 40 now not that age is an issue and because I am longer in the tooth I will try to take on board all is said and I am grateful for the advice too.

I just need to find a way to slow down!

They’re right! Check this out mensrunninguk.co.uk/top-fea...

I went to all slow running when lockdown was announced... which was strange to be doing every run... I’ve come out of it and onto a HM plan, and I’m faster than I was before.

That is a really interesting article actually and the fact the three of you have said to slow down means there is method behind it. My plan was to change my running in August so that is what I'm going to do. Really appreciate the advice given, so thank you.

This is SO interesting. I am on my third week of consolidation runs and I too finished the Programme running at about 5m20sec/km and can do 5K within 30mins relatively ‘straightforwardly’.

I was running every other day during the Programme but now I only run on Mon, Wed and Thurs. Monday is difficult and I stop at 5K exactly. Wed and Fri I set out slower and have been running 8K and on Fri last week I got my 10K in 55mins.

WHY IS SLOW SO MUCH QUICKER yet so much harder for this 48yr old to aspire too?

Glad I am not the only one who finds is "straightforward" I will definitely try a different approach come august and I too have no idea why slower is faster. Is that not against the laws of physics or motion?

Not what you're looking for?
