W4 over thank God but does it get easier?

Hi all,

I really just want to know...does it get easier? The last 60 seconds was a killer today. I forced one step infront of the other whilst my body was screaming to stop and quit. I can't imagine why people do this for fun?? When does it start to get fun? It's just exhausting right now.

Also...at what point are you properly running? Right now I'm barely doing slow jogging and would not class it as running at all. When do you get fit enough that you can lengthen your stride and actually run for a good few minutes?

Yes it really does get easier, I promise. Don't worry about the pace, it's not even a thing. One foot in front of the other with both feet off the ground is enough - the rest comes naturally over time, and it doesn't matter how long that takes. Slow down a little and maybe actually try smaller steps, lean forward a little to let gravity help you - relax all your muscles except for your legs (lol!) and feel your shoulders drop. Running a little more relaxed is so much easier, and the pace really does pick up naturally, don't worry about that bit :)

Trying to drop your shoulders is a great tip, the amount of times I would wake up the next day with sore shoulders due to being to tense when running.

I go through ups and downs with the programme, I can’t say I love to run, but I am proud when I see the scales and feel better once I have been out. I’m currently sat reading posts instead of getting ready to go out, putting off as long as possible (W6 R3 - 25 mins straight running)

Good luck on your journey.

I’m not sure easier is the right word, you’re exerting yourself so it will always feel like hard work, however you body will become more used to it as your fitness improves 😊

Week 4 was horrible, I hated every minute of it, and haven’t a clue why

Yes it does get easier and yes one day you will realise your easy jog is not only more comfortable but a little bit faster too and when that happens and you realise you aren’t huffing and puffing like a train and your legs aren’t screaming in pain you can stretch out and run a bit faster still

My favourite thing is that i can sprint and drop back to an easy pace to recover without having to walk to recover my breath

Good luck

This is where I'd like to be. To be able to sprint then drop back to a slow jog and recover rather than needing to stop to recover from the slow jog! Lol. I guess some days are just hard.

Here's hoping W5 will be better. I think I'll have to be satisfied with snail pace throughout and not try and 'run' just yet.

Firstly congratulations on completing week 4. Well done for keeping in going even when you wanted to stop, that’s the biggest hurdle and you already overcome it. Slow is most definitely the way to go for now and (I am assured) faster pace will come in time but for now just relax and go as slow as you can or want.

I’m sure you will start to enjoy it, for me it was around the end of week 6, and I’m sure it will get easier too, you might no think so and every run might be hard but that’s because you are always progressing, after you graduate if you go back to Week four you’ll be amazed at how easy you will find it then. Keep going you’re doing great!

Well done.

If any run is tough, just slow down.

Can you speak aloud, clear, ungasping sentences as you run?.........if not, you are going too fast.

Yes, your slow pace is a sign of your physical fitness, but there is not a better training plan in existence to improve that than C25k, so stick with it and when you can run for thirty minutes in a few weeks time, W1 would be a doddle for you.
