Hi, I've finally completed week 9 run 3 Hooray πŸŽ‰ my problem is although I can jog for 30 mins I can only manage 3km in 30 mins! I know I run slowly, I've never run before. I'm a 52 year old complete beginner, I'm proud I have managed to run for 30 mins but was wondering if anyone else has found this issue? And has anyone got any tips for increasing my speed and distance? Thanks xxx

Congratulations!

First, consolidate... so keep your 3x 30 mins for the next month or so and during that time, you can focus on what you want to do with your running.

Don't worry about your distance, you're in excellent company. Only 10% of folks here manage 5k in 30 mins, so you're in the overwhelming majority.

Also, download the 3 excellent supplementary C25K+ podcasts: Stamina, Stepping Stones and Speed.

By the way is this slow?

Many thanks John, I didn't realise I was in the majority!!!!! That's very encouraging, I'm determind to get to 5k eventually. I'll look at the supplementary podcasts, thanks again.

Congratulations!!! πŸƒβ€β™€οΈLike you I have managed the 5k in 30 mins. My thinking is this..

Firstly I am going to see if I can actually do 5k...so I'm going to try and so the distance and not worry about the time so much. This is just for curiosity because I feel I still have something in the tank when I get to 30 mins.πŸ‘

Then, secondly I'm going to try and speed up the 30 mins to try and eventually get to the 5k. πŸ€

Then, thirdly start 5k to 10k training when I'm comfortable with that...πŸ€ͺ

Don't know if this Masterplan will work..but I'll give it a try because to be honest I never thought I'd finish C25K, everything is a bonus now. 😁

Nothing ventured ...nothing gained!πŸ€

Hey Chezzer well done! I did w9r3 last Fri and my first consolidation run this morning. Distance was 3.27 so I'm delighted to be pleasantly plodding for 30 mins and I'll slowly work towards decreasing time and increasing distance. I'm 65 btw so I figure I'm not doing too bad! πŸ˜€ Onwards!πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

First off congratulations πŸ₯³πŸƒπŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸŽ‰πŸŽ“ you did it! Well done

As others have said you’re in the majority- it took me a bit of consolidation of 30 mins before I managed to do the 5K in about 40 mins. I am still consolidating and building up the time slowly - I just wanted to know if I could actually do 5K! So for now I’m just bimbling along building up the length of my runs in time rather than distance. I certainly don’t do 5K every time yet! And I’m fairly certain I’ll never do it in 30 mins but I’m OK with that. I’m thinking I might try park runs when they restart and just want to be able to complete them!

Look forward to reading your consolidation posts πŸƒπŸΌβ€β™€οΈonwards and upwards

Thanks very much, that's encouraging, I just felt a bit dissappointed that I hadn't managed to get near 5k. I'll keep trying and build up slowly. I'll let you know how I get on, ps 5k in 40 mins sounds fantastic πŸ˜€

I graduated 4 years ago and have never managed 5k in 30 minutes!!! You can gradually increase to 5k once you have consolidated your 30 minute runs for a while.

Enjoy it from here whatever you decide to do. Well done, you're a graduate and a runner!

Well done, I graduated 2 weeks ago and that’s what I do most of the time. I’m going to take advice on the forum and just enjoy 30 mins for a few weeks and then try a bit more distance which will mean more time. πŸ˜€
