Week 7 Complete

I've been reading these boards regularly but with just two weeks to go, thought it best to introduce myself.

I have not had a linear route towards this, indeed I started in February and issues around an old knee injury saw me do two runs per week.

Before children came along, I was a regular slow runner. I completed 10ks, 10 miles and Half Marathons (usually towards the rear) with reasonable regularity but these have always been a challenge and I would never call myself a natural runner. That said in my days of racing, I would get into a good (if not quick) rhythm and thanks to this programme that has come back after a near six-year sabbatical!

The progress in weeks 5-6 is steep but provides a solid groundwork for the longer runs. I've often thought that running longer distances is about turning off the voice in your head that says "I can't" and thankfully that has come back for me.

I'm not sure what the general point of this post is other than to say thanks to those who have put it there. It's providing a sense of release and solitude at a time when there's much to be concerned about in the world and for that I am grateful.

I agree with lots of this post. Especially switching off the 'I can't ' voice! It's a great program. Rather than say weeks 5 and 6 are steep progress, I would probably say that weeks 7-9 were easier progress; I think it was around w7 I heard a new voice, it was saying 'wow, I think maybe you can!'. Good luck. Do you plan to build back up to HM distance again? Whatever you decide, enjoy 😊

I've done the Swansea Half and the Great South Run but have always fancied the Cardiff Half. The Swansea 10 is a great race and whilst that's unlikely to run this year, my target is to run the route on my own and if that's ok put in an entry for the next half I can find!

I've always needed something in the book to focus on. Once there's a target I'm fine but getting to 10k is the initial goal. Just about to start week eight once my son's asleep so another step in the right direction. 👍

Agreed! I always need a goal and a plan. My next plan is for a HM I have deferred from last year in October. Will aim to do it alone if it's cancelled. Sounds like you're well motivated. Take a look at the other forums as you move forward- Bridge to 10k and Marathon & race support (any distances, not just marathons 🤣).
