Why are some runs so much easier than others?

So tonight I set off, really not feeling, check my pace and I'm going about a 10 minute mile (I usually try and stick to about 14 minute mile) so I tried to slow down a little.

Carry on and realise pace hasn't slowed but it was just a lovely easy run.

Get to a fork in the road and check my time to decide which way to go and I only had 3 minutes left and at 28 minutes I felt like I easily could have carried on.

My other runs this week (week 8) I've managed about 1.9 miles but today I did 2.74!

I also wasn't expecting it because I really didn't feel like it and doubted I'd manage at all 🤷🏼‍♀️

Does anyone else have days like this?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining, it's just odd and I'm sure I'll be disappointed when my pace goes back to normal on my next run 😂

Everything going on in our lives can impact on our performance as a runner. Restedness, hydration and nutrition are at the top of my list of variables that need to be optimised to enable enjoyable running.

If you get it all right then runs tend to be better.........the converse is true, also.

There’s a million and one reasons... sometimes I find that a really bad day in all other respects makes for a great evening run, I think that’s because my brain is distracted so much. Other times I’m feeling great and the run sucks... but no worries, there’s always the next run.

This happened to be for W7 R3- I had loads more energy than normal and I was faster and managed to cover more distance (and I even could have carried on). Then yesterday it was back to normal again. It’s very strange, but at-least you know in the right conditions your body is able to do that!
