So I listened to the advice I've received on here and focussed less on distance and more on running at a comfortable pace to build endurance. It worked! There was no "toxic ten" or mid run fatigue, just felt good all round. Just ticked over the 5k at the end and usually that would annoy me because I'd expect a bit more in 28 minutes, but today I didn't care, because it felt better and I enjoyed it a lot more, there was even a refreshing rain shower half way through.
Roll on the final week...
