Week 4: Gained weight???: Due to start W4 both... - Couch to 5K
Week 4: Gained weight???
Don’t worry about it. Your weight will fluctuate on a daily basis, so it the long term trend that matters.
But, don’t fall into the trap I did and “reward” yourself with food/drink after a good run
I have a banana and a Vimto...then just follow S W plan. I feel better..fitter etc but concerned about lugging that excess weight around
If you haven’t done a lot of exercise recently then your body will be building up muscle. I didn’t really start losing weight until later, when the runs were longer. Then the weight came off quite quickly. I was losing a pound a week at the end.
In the first few weeks you are working on building up your fitness which has lots of health benefits in addition to helping lose weight. On these weeks where your running isnt much of the time, you won't burn that many calories so it is unlikely you would lose weight if this is your only lifestyle change. As you build up to running more and get fitter, you will burn more calories each run so it becomes easier to support your weight loss with running. I'd say go easy on yourself, you are making great progress with your fitness goals and the weight loss will come later. You will probably need to do a combination of diet change and exercise to lose weight, once you're getting further through the program, but for now you're doing great and that will follow later.
Hormones and micro tears. Give it at least a month and then judge.
Thank goodness someone else is experiencing the same!!! I’ve been so good for nearly 3 weeks now (started dieting a week before I started C25K) but each week I step on the scales I’m a little bit HEAVIER!!! I was hoping it was to do with building up the muscle, having been very lazy for so long, so I guess I’ll just wait a few weeks and see! I need some reward for all this exercise! 😂
I'm on the verge of throwing out the scales as I feel so much better and feel different..so maybe it's about having a different mind set. Keep up the good work..I'm determined to stay with this until the end!
Great idea!
That’s a great idea!
Go with how you feel in your body.
I have just finished wk 8 and I haven’t lost any weight but my legs have started to tone and I feel so much better, although a little tired at times.
I know it’s hard - I would like to lose my remaining baby weight. But try not to let the weight loss be the main focus and see it as a bonus when it comes later on.
Good luck on your next run!
Hi
It's possible for the weight gain to be muscles... think about whether you're toning or your clothes are looser to measure weight. Athletes often weigh more because of their muscles.
Happy running!
Thank you for that...after I weighed myself I did try on clothes that were too tight before and they actually FIT..yipppppeee! So I'm going to keep going. Big wedding next August..and I have my eye on a gorgeous dress.
2 pounds could just be a big poo
Very much simplified:
when you exercise, your muscles experience micro tears.
Over the next 48 hours or so, they repair themselves (and thus get stronger in the process).
The mild inflammation, meanwhile, involves some water being retained.
This later gets released by the body and can explain the fluctuations of a few pounds gained/lost.
It's so annoying when your diet leader asks you why you think you gained and what will you do next week to lose it - when you appear to be doing everything correctly! Just tell them that you will carry on the same as before.
Weigh yourself: just take a rolling average over 4 weeks and you should see a trend in weight loss;
the fact that your clothes are feeling loose is a positive sign - and a happy "NSV"! (Non Scale Victory) so explain that to your diet leader, it's not just the scale number, it's how you are transforming your body and your diet leader should encourage you with these visible results!
