Week 6 struggle

Has anyone else found that week 6 is the one when they have really started to flounder? 67 and new to exercise I’ve managed ok so far but this week I feel as if I’m not moving much more quickly than a fast walk. Any comments gratefully received!

You are doing well. Don't worry. It can catch people out after Week 5 run 3 but you keep going. Keep hydrated and your steady pace is fine as long as you're moving. We all have our ups and downs and that is why we love running. If I'm doing what you are at 67 I will be buzzing.

I'm on Week 7 but I found Week 6 to be really tough. I was so happy that I managed Week 5 Run 3, running for 20 mins nonstop, so it was a big surprise to struggle in week 6. There's other threads with theories as to why week 6 is so difficult, so you're definitely not alone in starting to flounder. It can feel like a big setback after making so much progress, but you will hit your stride again. I just did week 7 Run 2 today, after floundering since Week 6, and I finally feel like I'm managing it comfortably again. Don't be discouraged, even if it's difficult for a few runs - it does get easier.

Thank you. It’s hard to imagine improving but I’m encouraged!

You are doing great.

The longer runs can take some mental adjustment.

Distraction is a great ploy. I used to give myself a running commentary of all I witnessed on my run, in full florid sentences. Others use comedy podcasts or music, or compile shopping lists.

Anything to stop you thinking about time and the physicality of running.

Speed is irrelevant........it will still build your stamina.
