Tight calves

Hi, I’m on week four and have found that my calves become very tight when I start my session, what is the best thing I can do? Are there some recommended stretches that I can do before I go out?

Thanks, Nikki

Dynamic stretches like leg swings before you go, look more up on net.

After your run it's static stretches, standing calf stretch, look it up on net. You could do the calf stretches a few times per day if you are having bother.

Drink a fair amount of water too.

Stay safe 🌈

Epsom salts in a bath after a run are really good too.

My fav stretch for my calves is tip toes on the curb, deep as heck. Stand on a curb with the front part of your foot on the curb, and go onto your tip toes, when you come down, make your heal go a bit below the level of the curb. Should stretch it out good. Good luck!

Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help. Post run stretches are more important than pre run in my opinion.

Enjoy your journey.

Hi

All of the replies are good advice.

I did a pilgrimage the de compostela Camino in Spain an my calves and legs were terrible ! It was dehydration! So I would recommend all for the stretches already mentioned but make sure you drink plenty ty of water before and after your runs . Also important to eat carbs on the day of your runs (like pasta and rice) Good luck and hope this helps 😀
