Natural Asthma Remedies

Hey,

I've just started running the Ct5K and completed my second run 🙌 But I'm having a bad flare up with asthma right now, I've not been well and the pollen and running is sending it west. It has been so bad when running I actually had an attack after my first run, because even though my chest hurts, I just won't quit (determined to a fault I know). So until my diet clears up my asthma again, does anyone have any natural remedies for asthma? I heard wearing a mask helps?

Thanks ❤

Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

I think most asthmatics who run use an inhaler.

Enjoy your journey.

Thanks you very much :) yeah I do have an inhaler, but I try not take medication when necessary. I was able to reverse my asthma with diet, fell off the diet, asthma came back!

Thanks for the link!

Okay, you know your condition better than I do, but by introducing running you are creating a major change in your lifestyle that may affect your body in many different ways.........mainly positive, but exercise induced asthma is quite a common condition.

As I said, many runners with asthma carry an inhaler when running.

I actually have chronic asthma so I get it outside of exercise too. Thank you for your advice, I will look at taking an inhaler in the future and look through the forums.

Thanks again :)

I am on my second ct5k run too! I’ve found the good weather has made my asthma much worse. Try focusing on your breathing on your warm up and I cannot go without my inhaler 😫 struggling with it but like you I am so determined to try and complete it!! Let me know how you get on!

Hey! Oh that's great how you getting on? I'm on week 2 run 2 now! And let me tell you, I've cracked it. My problem was that my chest hurt and felt sharp and cold when I breathed in. Well i was breathing in so hard because of the asthma, so I've been wearing a face mask while running, which i recommend doing anyway to stop contamination of the virus, but its help massively. The air i breath in now is warm so my lungs don't hurt, and not as much pollen is getting in either, I use 100% cotton mask for most efficiency. Then I'm just left with not being able to breath as deep as I should, but it's not unbearable, and once my diet kicks in again my asthma and allergies will be gone 🤷‍♀️

Hi, I’ve got asthma & would be interested what foods you use to control your asthma with your diet.

Hey, I eat a plant based whole foods diet. If you don't want to commit to that, cutting out inflammatory foods might help, such as milk, cheese, sugar, refined cards etc. I'd look at some research that lists them, you can find them with a quick Google search. Also eating food that decreases inflammation, I add turmeric and black pepper to my morning smoothies. The tumeric decreases inflammation and the black pepper helps it absorb. Both of these things also help muscle ache after work outs too :D I also drink a range of green teas, especially peppermint, and also add a few drops of different essential oils into my dehumidifier. All these may help, but what really does it is what you eat. It's a big commitment though as it is a change of lifestyle, so that's down to you. Good luck :)

My husband has asthma, not chronic fortunately, he takes peppermint essential oil in a home made nasal inhaler and says it makes a big difference. He always takes his inhaler incase but doesn't often need it.

Oh that's a good tip thanks! I went for a run yesterday and my asthma didn't bother me at all, so hopefully it's almost cleared up again :) I'll try the peppermint, thanks.
