How to track distance?

Apologies but I am a dinosaur when it comes to technology. I have tried downloading mapmyrun and strava but it seems as I have an old iphone 5 they will not install. They need iOS 11 or above (whatever that is :)). Any other recommendations or do I need to upgrade my phone?

Try the sw update feature on your ph to see if there are some missing updates you can get. Then try some of the other apps ie Strava.

Find the app you want to install

Tap the Cloud icon

A popup will appear and you will be asked: “Download an older version of this app? The current version requires iOS X.X or later but you can download the last compatible version” Simple tap “Download”download an older version of this app

And download will commence

I cant find the cloud icon! I think I just need to run with that thing we used at school to map distance - a wheel on a stick. Thanks for trying to help a useless technophobe like me though. Much appreciated.

Of the running apps I know... this one is the only one I can see that supports iOS 10 in its current release apps.apple.com/gb/app/endom...... others may have older versions available, but I think iOS 10 is where many older apps were removed from the App Store. iPhone 5 supports iOS 10.3 I think... update your device first if needed and then try endomondo, which is equivalent to MapMyRun as it’s in the same family of apps from under armour with subtly different functionality. I believe it even has some functionality that all of the other apps lack!
