We moved to Hertfordshire two years ago from the north. I soon noticed some very big birds in the sky - huge, wheeling things with distinctive white blogs on the underside of their wing tips. I'd never seen them before, looked them up (they are red kites) and learnt their story. They were extinct in England and have been reintroduced, very successfully.
They are now my constant overhead companions on my runs, and they never fail to lift my heart. They are so distinctive and so beautiful as they patrol the sky.

Thats amazing, in 1975 my dad took me to Wales to see the ‘last’kites, ( I’m convinced I saw one!) and what a great success story for this lovely bird.
