Last Saturday was the first leap year to fall on a Saturday since Parkrun began. Neither of us were really feeling it as we had not managed more than a couple of km's during the week, but decided that as we won't be around for the next one in 2048, we had to.
It was wet, the path was muddy and there were puddles galore! (Puddles? Some were like lakes!) The course that is local to us is what they call "undulating" and technical. It has a max elevation of 83 mtrs and is run on forest tracks. Hard, but we love it. Started off in no rush just a comfortable pace. Kept going and actually got a PB for the course!
It is not a quick time by others standards, but for me on a course like this? I am very happy. Being old is not a bar to running and doing well. Take a look at the course on the Parkrun site, then come and visit. Oh and on the 29th February, we ran our 29th Parkrun!
That looks like a lovely parkrun route! Well done on your pb, that's the icing on the cake. My local parkrun is also, ahem, undulating but I always feel so pleased with myself for completing it. I must admit that if it hadn't been a special one this weekend, the weather would have put me off going. I was soaked by the end!
Thanks Debston. That is one of the long shallow hills, others are short but steep! I think it was the law that you and I had to do the run on the 29th! But we were luckier than you, ours was dry in the air, but damp/squidgy/slippy/flooded underfoot. But we all got our rewards, well done to you too.
