Hi guys, just decided to give this a go, now to find somewhere to carry it out without people around 🙄
A new start : Hi guys, just decided to give this... - Couch to 5K
A new start
I run on Greater London streets and was initially a bit shy of running where I might be seen be neighbours and acquaintances - some being regulars at the local Parkrun. So I went out in stealth mode - decent running shoes, but loose jeans and a fleece.
By the second week or so I realised that I needn't have worried. The only interactions I've had with anyone on the street has been friendly waves from other runners. I seem to be invisible to everyone else. So invisible in fact that I'm now looking for a fluorescent jacket for running at night as I do want to make sure drivers see me...
I can relate to the discomfort, but it passes. I started in the park, but more recently I'm happy to run from my house around the area.
Welcome to the forum and well done on your decision.

Enjoy your journey.
Honestly no one but you cares. You’re out running and doing something positive, ignore anyone who says otherwise . Good luck !
Do you stare and point at folk you see running? Of course you don't! And noone will do that to you. I guarantee that within three weeks you will have gained confidence and have forgotten about everybody else. You might even be inspiring them!
Good luck 👍
Go for it, nobody will take any notice...
Enjoy!
I understand your need for anonymity, I felt so self conscious about how daft I must look when I started which was one of my reasons for going out stupidly early in the morning for my runs. (For more practical reasons, it is also the only way I can easily fit it into my day, plus it gives me less time to thing of excuses for not going!) I do see the odd dog walker and occasionally a couple of significantly fitter fellow nocturnal runners (who always send a cheery wave, which is nice) but have realised that no one is at all interested in me, or what I look like. I now just try and focus instead on keeping my pace nice and slow, and listen to the comedy podcast I have in my headphones.
