It’ll vary from person to person. I’d recommend going to a running shop and getting good advice and a fair analysis. When I do that, I buy my first pair from that shop but replace via the internet.

Fair analysis was an autocorrect! I meant “gait” analysis!!

Hmm, that's very individual. It will depend on your feet, your running style and your wallet. As Charlie says, your best going to a knowledgeable running shop for your first pair. Lots of people will advise you to have a gait analysis, but I think the quality of the staff is more important (ducks and hides in the corner); the Saturday boy looking at a video of you running and then recommending what the shop has in stock, isn't much help.

It's quite a financial outlay, but if you're serious about wanting to run, it's the one item of kit I wouldn't advise skimping on.

People tend to be passionate about the brand they've found suits them. Asics, Nike and Brooks seem popular. Personally, I invested in a pair of Ons Cloud and love them. 💖 The best thing I can say about them, is that I don't notice I'm wearing them.

Enjoy your shopping and post a picture when you've made your purchase.

You're welcome, someone will come along and contradict me on the gait analysis in a minute. 😉

Or me!

Come out of hiding haha. Guess it depends what they do, watch you run or use the fun machines to see where your weight is distributed 😁 I’ve been so

Impressed with the advice at Sweatshop.

Yes, I think it's really down to the quality of advice you get with your gait analysis and the amount of time the shop is prepared to with you.

Getting a gait analysis and having shoes fitted around week 5 made all the difference. It is individual. I have Brookes which are great - my previous Asics were a bit too rigid. Apart from tbat, don't go for looks, but take advice instead.

Happy running!

I’m a Brooks girl, previously ASICS!

Find a good running shop with knowledgeable staff and a range of running shoes to suit your budget.

Due to a muscle inbalance it was important for me to get gait analysis done before I bought my first pair of trainers. Gait analysis will assess your foot placement and find out if you over pronate as you run. Analysis will indicate if you need a supportive or neutral shoe.

The fitter advised me to take a half shoe size up from my previous trainers and they were right to do so.

I have Mizuno and they are really comfortable. Now I know what suits me I can find cheaper past-season versions on the internet when I need to replace them.

Yep that’s what I do. I feel honour bound to buy he first pair from the shop. But thereafter, it’s the web for me

Gait analysis is the only way for most people, and to find out you’re not one of them takes a gait analysis session 🤣

The right shoe for you will make a big difference, and they’ll be well worth the investment.
