After my utter jubilation of completing my W5r3 on Saturday I unfortunately hit the brick wall of W6R1 last night. I must say that it was the toughest run I’ve done so far, even compared with those heady days of W1. I really struggled, a number of issues I think, definitely the return to intervals really threw me and I think I needed an extra rest day as I was sore following Saturdays 20 min run.
I just didn’t enjoy it, the howling gale, hail and monsoon didn’t help but it just didn’t click. I was sluggish had soreness in my lower calves/upper ankles and just couldn’t concentrate. Due for my W6R2 tomorrow but I’m being sensible and taking a few days extra rest. I’m still sore in the legs today and even my usual rest day gentle walking hasn’t helped.
I guess you can’t win them all and a bit of headspace to reassess is sometimes good to get a better perspective. I’m sure in a few days I’ll be raring to go but for the next day or so it’s rest and relax!!!

Just put it down as a practice run. That run catches a lot of people out for some strange reason - I wish I had mentioned it to you and said to take it extra slow. Never mind, I have no doubt you will smash it next time. In the meantime put your feet up and get some rest 😁
Thanks Wenderwoo, I had a feeling it was going to be a tough one. Never mind, a practice run it is and hopefully by the weekend I’ll be set to carry on, I’m not in a rush!!!
Week 6 has caught many folk out.... rest up and recover... also do take a look at the strength and flex forum... exercises there for every bit of your running body!
Thanks Oldfloss, they look great. I had previously joined the strength and flax group but not really committed much time to extra activity on my rest days. I work outdoors in the forest so tend to get walks in most days but will make conscious effort to strengthen up my legs and give them some tlc...
As already said, i think we think if we can run for 20 minutes we think we can do anything, that run was tough for us and we’d already read that it could be, rest up and pick a calmer day next time this weather didn’t help
I did this run recently, it was ......🤐 my post about it is here somewhere. Have some rest, put it down to one of ‘those’ runs and anyway more miles in the legs is a good thing👍
Are you stretching after your runs? I only just started doing this properly about this time in the program but I think it’s working wonders.
Oh and nothing wrong with waiting for better weather next time😉
Not really done lots of post run stretches, I have done some but I think I’ll really concentrate on getting more done to safeguard against injury in these last few weeks.
I’m sure I’ll bounce back soon and get back out on the plan... I’m away on a family trip until the weekend so I’ll regroup and get back on the plan then. Can’t wait!!!
