Bottom of my calves felt a bit tight around half way today. Is that a not-sufficiently-hydrated sign?

Could be. Or it could be that they weren't quite warmed up enough, or simply still a little heavy from the last run.

So long as there is no pain, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Maybe a little massage, good rest and and see you feel next time

Well done.

Stretching immediately after every run, nhs.uk/live-well/exercise/h... while muscles are still warm and supple, pulls out contractions, avoiding carrying tensions into the next run and also improves recovery by improving blood flow.
