Going to start back at it again.......

Having completed C25k 6 months ago then run on and off, then pulling my glutes/ incorrect stretching caused more aches and pains. I’ve tried to keep coming back and I will again. Sometimes I think running is against me

though. I stretch after every run but always get some ache or pain 🤷🏻‍♂️. I’ve got the right trainers and had gait analysis.

Help!

Welcome back.

Do you use the stretches linked to in the guide to the plan? healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

If any issue like this persists we recommend you see a physio.

Thank you. Yes I’ve been doing the nhs stretches. I think I might be pushing myself a bit too much.

Well, firstly, good for you for persisting! But completely understand your frustrations. 😕 I have experienced all manner of niggles/injuries in the 2.5 years I have been running, but I have learned that a) you can overstretch! B) strength training really can make all the difference - more so than stretching to be honest c) a foam roller can be your best friend and ally. I have a great physio who has got my body in much better shape for running! I understand it can be prohibitively expensive for some, but I feel it is money well spent.

Yeah I went to the physio with knee pain and he figured out that it was my glutes that we’re super tight. What sort of strength training would you recommend? Thanks 😊

Everything is so interconnected! That’s why it can take a physio to find out what is causing pain. Who’d have though knee pain could come from tight glutes, eh?!

Well, this is only what I have found, but “seated figure of four” stretch is very helpful for tight glutes. (YouTube should be able to provide instruction). And, if you Google Runner’s World Strength training for runners, you will find a comprehensive range of easy to do at home strength exercises. Good luck! Getting stronger really is the game changer in terms of reducing your injury risk. 👍
