Well, I did the first week very slowly and carefully. I began to notice a tingling at the back of my heel. Even though I stopped running, that has continued and developed into a dull ache. So that’s that until it gets better, as I’m in my 70s and don’t want to compromise the swimming and walking that I enjoy. Sometimes bodies just don’t cooperate. When I recover and try again is it a good idea to wear some kind of ankle support?

You could try heel drops, while standing on a step.
This is primarily to do with inflexibility of the muscle and tendon, so regular, gentle, daily stretching and also stretching immediately after each and every run, while everything is still warm and supple, as recommended in the guide to the plan, should be beneficial.
As you can see by the related posts alongside, this is a common issue.
