Strained Achilles tendon

Week 1, first 2 runs were great all on nice smooth path. Decided to run somewhere else for run 3 and path was uneven and potholed. It's now 8 days since last run thanks to straining my right Achilles tendon

Oh no! How frustrating after taking the plunge and getting started! Hope you have a speedy recovery. I’ve just started too, although only on a treadmill. I’m getting some discomfort in my lower legs but can’t put it down to potholes!

Best wishes for a quick recovery.

I have a treadmil but can't program mine for walking and running 🤬

Sorry to hear about your Achilles - please be very careful and look at YouTube videos for good stretches - heel drops are excellent. Your treadmill do NOT need to be programmable to do C25K ... you simply keep an eye on the clock and reduce and increase the speed as you need to. I have a spreadsheet with the timings if you're interested - print and cut out!

It's so easy to get injuries so nurse it properly and you'll be back to running again very soon.

Hope you have a speedy recovery. I pulled a ligament in my knee at the end of w1 when I first started the programme. I also ran in a park instead of road for the first time coupled with a a badly bruised little toe. I realised I was turning my foot to stop my toe hurting. Anyway I rested for few weeks and started again after a gait analysis and proper running shoes. I graduated last week with no further injuries. Happy running 🏃‍♀️

Is it expensive to have gait analysis?

depends on where you go, some places will do it for free like Decathlon, others may do it for free if you buy a pair of trainers from them, otherwise they do charge you. Running Fox in loughborough wanted £35

Sorry about your achilles. I found some exercises on youtube to strengthen them and help after injury.

I’ve had a painful Achilles for a while so was worried about running. But I’ve found that gentle jog, good trainers and then massaging my foot on a tennis ball have really helped. I was skeptical about the tennis ball thing but it’s really really helped ease it.

I am an overpronater and have recently bought the best Decathlon has to offer. They also have the enetor performance insoles in them. If I can get to 5k without wanting to puke I might investment in the gel-kayano trainers. But I need wide fit

If you are feeling nauseous you are probably going too fast... slowing down makes the running so much more enjoyable and will reduce the impact... hope your tendon calms down soon 🙃
