Nagging knee!

I'm very much a newbie to 'jogging' feeling proud that I have even attempted it! 😁👍started to have a niggly knee ache/pain which is probably not surprising but is holding me back. Just wondering if wearing a tubigrip on my knee when running would help??

I would try to avoid tubigrip and supports unless you know exactly what is causing the pain as restricting your knee may cause other issues.

Make sure your footwear is in good condition and is appropriate for running.

Make sure you're not pushing too fast/ hard.

Check out the links in the FAQs previously provided for the NHS knee strengthening exercises or look on Strength and Flex forum for these and others and work on building up your knee strength.

If necessary give yourself 2 days off between runs to give them time to adapt.

If all this doesn't help then consider seeing a physio to check if there is any obvious reason for pain.

Thanks for advice. I think I probably ran too fast on first week runs (there were 128 other runners and I was trying to keep up!) which probably did the damage. Going to start the knee exercises and take the runs slower to my own pace 😕☺

Listen to GoGo_JoJo, she knows. Second best thing to do to your knees, ask for professional advice. Ankles, knees and hips must be in perfect alignment when you run, unbalanced ankles (my case), as well as unbalanced hips are going to take a great toll on your knees. Notice where the pain is located, if it is on the outer side of the knee, most likely it is not the knee itself to be blamed about.

Thanks Tony. Just spoken to a local pharmacist showed him area of pain and he says it's ligaments which will hopefully settle as I get used to new exercise. Knee exercises will be good and I came away with tube of Deep Heat, smells lovely!! At nearly 60 not sure if anything will be in alignment 🤤 next run is tomorrow 🤞

‘At nearly 60 not sure if anything will be in alignment’. Be patient, run slow, keep safe, it all come in the right place by your 65th spring. Good luck!

Make sure that you are following the advice in the guide to the plan on minimising impact, stretching after every run and knee strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

I tried all sorts for knee issues but nothing helped. Pain early on in the programme goes after a week or so. Take ibuprofen.
