Best time to run?

Just completed W4R1 decided to try this at 530 am before work. I finished the run but it was a slog at the end. Is morning running harder?

If your run was a slog at the end, it means you put in a good effort! 😂 But seriously, everyone is different in terms of what time of day is best for them to run. I am very much a morning person, and am at my most perky and resilient in the mornings. I have never run after 10am in 2.5 years! (Other than when racing). Others feel better later in the day, when they feel more warmed up. But I just know that if I left it to later in the day I would have more time to find excuses not to go...

That said, some runs just feel harder than others...so your run today could just be one of “those” runs. Don’t give up just yet on morning running, if that suits you better.

Happy running!

I'm the same as you, both in the morning person bit, and knowing that if I tried later I'd have enough excuses not to run tonight! It's also the only way I can fit it in without disrupting family life. I usually get home between 6 - 6:30 in the evening, and we always eat family dinner at 7:30, so I couldn't go before. As I usually get up at 6:00 (or an hour earlier if it's a running day) I'm generally in bed between 9:30 & 10:00, so running after dinner wouldn't be practical either! The thing is, we are all different and all have different routines, you just have to find a time that suits you best...

Everyone is different. I used to run before lunch, but now I run first thing before breakfast - although 5.30 is a time I've never heard of! I don't like evening running because I find I don't sleep well afterwards.

I am very lucky in that I'm retired. I'm always full of admiration when I read posts from people juggling work and family life. Good luck.

I am also a morning person but have also done some lunchtime runs due to weather or other commitments. I wouldn’t say one is any easier/harder than the other.

I've run both in the morning and in the evening, when I first started on the treadmill I ran at 9pm, when I completed the program in 2017 I switched to running in the morning and found it better for me, I get quite hyper and it sets me up for the day.

When I ran in the evening I was wide awake after and couldn't sleep very well.
