Winter Fashion

So I have had a break from running for a while and plan to start again soon. Last winter I ran three times a week wearing s fleece and a pair of shorts. My legs got cold. So the question is: what would you recommend me to wear for running in winter in a part of the world where mornings are cold, wet, often frosty, occasionally icy? PS Fashion is the least of my concerns - comfort takes priority!

I got some Run Warm jogging/running bottoms from Decathlon. Excellent, tho’ so far a bit warm for my local weather so I’ve been wearing them for keeping warm afterwards. 😄

Being of the opposite gender, we may have different tastes, but I started off wearing some reasonably priced M and S joggers and then M and S leggings. As the weather turned, I treated myself to some very snazzy ronhill leggings . They weren't cheap, but what a difference! They fit beautifully, feel wonderful and have a bit more warmth in them.

Sadly, they don't improve my performance, but they make me feel like a runner.

I love my Ron Hill running tights in the winter and I wear a lot of layers on top so some can be removed if necessary (compression vest, long sleeved top with cuffings, short sleeved thin breathable top over that and then buff around my neck is usually enough).

My legs get slowly more covered up the further into winter we get: shorts then cropped leggings then tights - all Ron Hill, and all from eBay (Feb is a great time to shop for all the people giving up on their new year resolutions).

The tights are nice and cosy but they have a thinner bit at the back of the knee for a bit of ventilation. There are also zips up the ankles for getting them on/off but could also be used for ventilation.

Definitely comfort over fashion every time! Hope that helps. Happy warmer running!

Decathlon has some great cool and cold weather running tights and bottoms, one part of the range even comes with enough pockets hidden away to take everything you need for a picnic almost, ok slight exaggeration there.

They are good quality and reasonably priced.

Your post made me smile. Being female I’m perhaps more prone to fashion sense. Not today though! And today of all days I came across a friend. Tbh she almost didn’t recognise me in the ridiculous garb I had on because of the rain, gloom and chill wind. I should have just kept going!

So, I guess wear what you need to be comfy. Today I had on thermal leggings. Fleece top, high vis gilet, peculiar hat and gloves. Nothing matched! Enjoy!

Many thanks for all the helpful suggestions - I will go and check them out - then look out catwalks of Europe, I will be ready to strut my stuff!
