Hi everyone i havent been on here for 6 weeks... The last time i ran was just before my mum sadly passed away and what with this and having to sort out stuff i just havent had the time or inclination to carry on with my consolidation runs!! I dont want to slip back into old habits of couch and no 5k so just wondered at what point in the program should i start running again???? ... I was thinking week 5 run 3..20 minutes what do u think? Sorry to hear your news Paul. Yeah, 20 minutes sounds about right... but don’t take any pressures or expectations with you on that run... just relax and go. If you don’t make 20 first time you will soon, as anything you’ve lost will be minimal in terms of fitness. My biggest issue after a break is pacing, so sometimes I don’t get anywhere near as far as I planned to! Soon comes back though.
Sorry about your mother sadly passing away, but I am happy to know that you wish to resume your runs.
Which week or run to restart?
If you have been off running for more than two weeks, you say 6 weeks 1 think you should restart at run 1 of week 3, then 1 run every second day up to where you were when your mother sadly died.
I’m not qualified to advise on that, but I’m sorry to hear about your mum 🙂

It’s really hard to get motivated when big life events like this happen. So sorry to hear about your mum. You won’t have lost as much fitness as you fear, but why not make it easy on yourself and start on week 3, you’ll speed through it I’m sure!
Sorry to hear about your loss. Hopefully running will help. try week 5 r3 - that's the best way to fins out if it's the right place to re start. But just see how it goes; slow and steady. If it feels good, keep moving forward and if not try going back to the start of week 5. Wjat you have to do is find something that works for you, something you will enjoy. Good luck.

Yep I'd start around wk 5. See how u feel n how it goes. Hopefully the running might help. Keep us posted and look after yourself
I'm so sorry to hear about your mum. I know more than I'd like to about bereavement and one thing I believe is that having a physical connection with the world around you can help mental wellbeing. If you can't face a run, why not start by walking your usual route in your running gear and without headphones and see how you feel. If you happen to break into a bit of a jog, all well and good. If you don't, then you don't. No pressure.

Sorry about your Mam Pd. Mine passed a little over a year ago. Running helped keep my spirits up and gave me the "me time" to work through the emotions.

Sad to hear about your Mum, Paul. Do the run in memory of her. She would be so proud of you! Running is such a good place for dealing with the ups and downs of bereavement. Hope it goes really well!

W5R3 sounds good to me. Running has seen me through some tough times, maybe take 20 minutes out to think about your mum and revisit some happy memories. x
I am so sorry to hear about your mum.
When I took a break, I started again but did one run of each week until I stopped finding that easy. So I did wk 1, ok too easy next run will be wk 2. It had the advantage of being a gentle reintroduction as well. I hope this helps.

Just remember to be kind to yourself and give yourself time to adjust to life now...nice and slowly should mean you can run for longer and make the most of the headspace that comes with running...Good luck Paul and let us know how you're getting on
So further to my post i did manage to do the full 20minutes..legs felt a bit like jelly afterwards but i think i judged it ok.. I will just continue from this point and then get back to my goal of a parkrun in a few weeks time when i am close to or on 5k....thanks everyone for your ongoing support
That's great Paul, well done for getting through it. 👍🏻 Physical activity is fantastic for helping us to deal with both mental and emotional issues, I'm amazed you've managed not to run up until now.
Just keep half an eye on making sure you don't push yourself too hard, check in with your breathing and that you can still converse. We can unconsciously "punish" ourselves in times like these which obviously you don't need.
