New shoes.....

Husband took me to Decathlon this morning and I got a new pair of shoes. I’m not ready to invest big time in shoes so they are Kalenji hybrids. Also got a new bun bag that I can get my phone in and out of easily, some sunglasses (so sun will now disappear for good), and a waterproof jacket. That’s my treat for completing W4.......roll on graduation which hopefully will be around Christmas time!

Well like the running shoes and I glad you took my advice to spend husbands money and treat yourself well deserved 😂😂😂😂

Did you have a gait analysis?

Wenderwoo profile image
WenderwooGraduate in reply to IannodaTruffe

Sorry no. I have mixed feelings about it after reading the post on here and other posts on running websites. I have done the wet foot test and it seems pretty neutral. Plus I think trail shoes are all neutral anyway. At this moment in time I don’t want to spend big bucks - maybe if and when I complete this and are sure that I’m going to keep it up, then I might invest.

No need to apologise.

The majority of trail shoes are indeed neutral.

Be careful about running too much on road in trail shoes........... hybrids are a compromise.

I don’t run on road at all. I live opposite a Country Park with a lake, and run around there. It’s ideal for trail running, but I stay flat around the lakeside path at the mo. It’s to early yet to start venturing up any hills!

They look great! I don’t really understand why you wouldn’t need support in trail shoes, but that seems to be the way. I feel like I’d need my supportive shoes even on the trails! But I guess they know what they’re doing 🤷🏼‍♀️

I think it’s because trails are generally uneven, so support to keep the gait neutral doesn’t work. Instead the shoes are made to be more flexible so as to adapt to your foot and the terrain.

Ah that makes sense!

In soles are available in running shops for trail shoes for those who need support. My husband was running in a mix of different shoes and in soles until he chose the perfect combination .

I need to remember that 👍🏻

I am so with you regarding the mixed feelings! I was really curious to know how your gait analysis went. But I have googled so much lately (a bit too much, I confess) about running technique and the "right" shoes for each runner that I am a bit confused now. To me it seems that there are tons of theories about what is the "right" shoe to run in. Now "natural running" seems to be all the rage. But of course there are experts that say that if you overpronate you shouldn't run in neutral shoes. But the next expert says, well, there are so many people that overpronate a little, and in reality there is nothing wrong with that. It reminds me a bit of the heel strike/midfoot strike discussion.

Of course this is just me, and until now I haven't had any problems with my joints, tendons or knees (knock on wood!). According to the wet foot test I have a neutral foot and I am also rather lightweight. And I suppose I would see things differently if I had already experienced pain. But for now I will stick to my neutral trainers. And maybe do a gear analysis once I have graduated ... ;-)

Yes, thank you, it has been very helpful!

I have all those thoughts, and have googled till I went cross eyed 🤪 another thought I had about it is that the analysis is done based on around 2 minute run on a treadmill. That is a very short time to judge a persons gait. What happened when fatigue sets in? Lots of questions...... but, as I trail run and trail shoes are all neutral, I decided to go for a size larger, and comfort. I have my fingers crossed 🤞🏼But if they don’t work out I haven’t broken the bank 💰

If anyone tried to sell me running shoes after a 2 minute run on the treadmill I would walk out of the shop. 0ur independent running shop spends 30-45 minutes on each customer, more if necessary.

Yay!! I’m glad you found yourself some lovely kit to keep you going! A jacket is next on my list too 👍🏼

Decathlon is dangerous!Everything seems so reasonable. Hard to put anything back. Then you get to the till and no matter how hard they try reasonable x a lot of items always ends up a lot of money 😀. Even knowing that, I still keep going back 😍. Definitely a nice treat as you move on to W5. Well done.

Lovely kit! Let me know how you find the jacket as I need a waterproof and warmer one too. Decathlon not far for me 😂

Well done Wenderwoo for getting the new running goodies that you've earned due to your great progress, I hope you enjoy wearing them. I've had proper running shoes ever since I started C25K, they're so light and comfy. Another benefit for me is that I only wear them (and thinking about it, and everything else) when I'm going out for a run, so my body knows that's what I'm doing when I wear them. (As I keep saying, a lot of this is a mental challenge for me). Like you I did a lot of Googling about shoes before buying mine and I got mine mail order. (When I first heard about gate analysis I thought in meant me deciding if I could get past the end of my drive and go for a run until I checked the spelling!)

Thank you. I’ll be keeping mine purely for this running malarkey. Due to go out for W5R1 soon 😖. It’s raining so my new shoes aren’t going to stay new for very long.!
